uh-oh, where are the profanity police when you need them?

In case you didn't know, your car is junk because it does not have ABS, according to the folks above.

Just to throw my opinion in, I think mileage plays a part in values, especially right now in a bad market. The car has 20k plus, which is not alot of miles, but is by no means a low mileage car. This same car with 5-6k miles would no doubt be over $40k, IMHO.

I've checked prices of low mileage RT's, even in the more common red and 98's/99's have been priced in the high $30s/low $40s. I'm not naive enough to believe that all these sellers are getting their price but it does indicate the value of low mileage cars.

That said, with the mods described, it "seems" like that is a good price for this GTS. I must say, however, I know very little about this "in between" car - 2000 being without forged internals like 98/99 cars and no ABS.

This is just my 2 cents, but I don't think this forum is a place for slamming other owners or other owners' cars.

Thanks.

And if I may, it is indeed one heck of a good deal even with the miles:

  • It's a one-year-only color (Steel Gray)
  • It's the top-of-the-line model (ACR)
  • It's supercharged
  • It was done by one of the most reputable tuners out there (Sean Roe)
Our first Viper was a new 2000 GTS and we could not have been happier with it. We sold it three years later with 26,000 miles on it. By comparison this 2000 ACR is practically a garage queen! :D

Anyway, we don't know the owner/seller or this particular car, but we do know the year and the tuner very well. Seems like one heck of a deal indeed.

Didn't know that I would stir up so many comments when I listed the ACR. They have been fun to read. FYI, I originally bought the ACR because I thought it would be more collectible because of the small numbers built. I also fell in love with the steel grey color which really changes shade in the sunlight. I had no intention to ever sell it until I got my shoulder injury. I have a highend car dealer who will buy the car any time that I want to bring it over, but his offer price is not quite as much as I think the ACR is worth. There is a good chance the car would go to France, but I would rather see it go to a Viper Club member.

The forged internals are of value if you plan to modify. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with a cast engine if you plan to just enjoy your Viper. ABS is nice but not a dealbreaker if you like the car.

All of that can be changed. Trust me on this one......:rolaugh:

It's a beautiful car. If you like it, buy it.

Besides, a "bad year" Viper is still better than most sports cars out there.

The "enthusiast" questions Leslie's opinion... Hmmmm.....:smirk:

1. She wasn't made a moderator because of her lack of "Viper knowledge"..
2. She "tracks" her car. Has for years. She modifies her car. She's getting ready to do a BB mod. (That's BIG BRAKE for the "enth...."...uneducated.) She knows what she is talking about. OPINION is key word here.
3....

I would/could go on but all of the "MEMBERS" here already know of Leslie's experience and credentials.....

If this is your idea of a car club then have at it. I have been a VCA member in the past but have not renewed because of discussions such as this.

You have a moderator stating (not an opinion) that a 2000 viper acr with 24k miles with 20k in upgrades is not a steal for $37900. I am sure the member selling the car sure appreciates the moderator's help and opinion in promoting the sale of his car for him.
Nice, very nice thing to do for a 'member'.

Have fun with your (redacted) club and 'member'ship, if this what it's all about, then I have no interest.

VViper, your car IS a steal at that price and looks great.
Good luck in your sale.

I had a feeling that spending the $100 would scare you off.... BYE,BYE..:D

Hopefully this post can be cleaned up and stay open for the guy selling his car. This post has 600 views and his add has 300 views and was just posted on the 7th of this month. Good luck with the sale. I really think you can get your asking price in full amount. From the sound of it you don't have to absolutely sell right now. I would sell it for 40k and would imagine you could get that within a few months....but sometimes an extra 2k is not worth the hassle of dealing with tire kickers and numerous phone calls. Good luck with the sale...beautiful car and I would have gotten this one if I was in the market today.

Who cares what others think? If you like the car, buy it! I could have bought ANY Viper I wanted to a month ago, ANY VIPER, but you know what....I bought a 2000 GTS. Oh no, it doesn't have ABS!! No forged internals either! God, what will I do? It is all a matter of preference, bottom line. I could really care less about ABS and forged internals, I bought mine(and it my SECOND 2000 mind you) because Steel Grey color friggen rocks and after all, it is a Viper!
So, to answer your question, yes, it is a great deal. ****** that car up and don't look back!

I have to agree, I LOVE Steel Gray also and would love to have one in my garage. That is the year and color that got me hooked on Viper. I saw one at the WildWood hot rod weekend back and 2000 and wanted one ever since.

A couple of members have asked me what ceramic brake pads I put on my ACR. I used Hawk's Ceramic Pads and got them from Sean Roe. Brake dust had beeen a real problem but is almost nonexistent now.

:rolaugh:Whew, man, this is giving me a headache!

If I knew I could sell my 6k mile RT for same price, I'd buy the GTS in a heartbeat. Okay, so I'm a bit older, so my heart doesn't go as fast as some of you whipper snappers, but you get my point.

Based on pricing I've seen on Autotrader and cars.com, seems really clean low mileage red RTs do actually go for high $30's to low $40's

Thanks for the clarification on the 'Ceramic' brakes. I suspected that you meant pads and not $20,000 worth of rotors. I've got EBC Reds on mine. You ad says new rotors, meaning stock cast rotors or lightweight slotted/drilled rotors?

I am mildly interested, but am looking for a "steal" of a deal since I have to pay big taxes and would need to drive the car over 4,000 miles.

Just to stir up the *** a little more - the ad for this car in the VCA classifieds says it has "Antilock Brakes". Is that what ABS is, or does ABS mean something else?

Yep... ABS = Anti-Lock Braking System...but not OE on 2000. ??????
It also has Fog Lites.... was an E-Z add, but not OE on an ACR.
Mid-year ACR in 2000 swapped from Koni Rattlers to DSI-leakers;
2000 harneses were recalled, and had 2 Frame recalls as well.
Looks like a good buy if no 'stories' emerge...

ps Year 2000 was indeed an adolescent Gen 2. The first 200 or so had the engine issues with the new pistons

I think my 2000 is the most amazing piece of fun to drive! The non-ABS is part of that.

Coming from a C6 Z06 I made the transition exactly because of all the Nannies to a car that demands all of my attention and so much more skill and care. Not flat-spotting the tires and finding the greatest decelleration technique is part of the package. The 2000 Rocks!

BTW I was watching Speed channel the other day and they were mentioning the race cars transitioning from ABS to non-ABS as it makes for faster lap times. :drive:

I would think most of us are Viper fans....I think that is a very low price on a acr, roe, .. I will remind all of you , you will sell your viper one day, and it will be fun to listen to fellow fans point out how bad your car is. I must have paid way to much for mine.
