Question on stripes and colors

Hello everyone. I was checking out this 96 RT/10 on ebay:

I have a question about the stripes. The dealer claims there has never been any paint or stripe work and the car is 100% original. But I notice the stripes on the rear don't go all the way up to the rear window like all the other Vipers I've seen. Were there 96 RT/10s made that only had the stripes on the trunk? Or did someone actually screw up on the stripes here? In the photos, the stripes on the front appear to be dull to me. They also go to the edge of the hood when all the others I've seen stop about an inch away from the edge.

I'm sorry but I just don't trust dealers very much. I also notice he says dual airbags. If I'm not mistaken there are no airbags in the 96 RT/10s, correct?

Also, he says only 337 were made with those white and blue colors. Can anyone verify that for me? Where would I go to see actual numbers produced? I have a black and silver 96 RT/10 so I'd like to find out how many of those were made too. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks alot!

that dealer is hiding something or he doesnt know the car..The rear stripes in the trunk are SUPPOSED to go all the way from the trunk forward to the glass..That car has been repainted....

Thanks VERY much guys! You don't know how many hours I spent searching for build info and calling dealers to try to get info that no one seemed to have.

I have mentioned the stripe issue to the dealer and he pretty much called me a liar and said "look at my positive feedback on ebay"! hehe. I told him maybe he was lied to since I have no idea where they picked up the car. He still swears up and down that it has never been repainted or had any stripe work done. This is why I don't like dealers much! hehe. He pretty much had me doubting myself, so I decided to come here and post it for the real Viper pros.

I really feel sorry for the person who wins the auction because they are basing the purchase on the dealer's lies. I'd be quite upset if I had bought it only to have someone tell me that it wasn't all original as the dealer claimed it was. Thanks again!

Don, you're right! I wounder what happened to it, not to have the stripes that far back means something is weird(way wrong). I have my black/silver stripe 96 for sale. Is your heart set on the white car?

Mikes 96 is a super clean car with a real BAD-A$$ exhaust system (wish mine sounded that good) That would be a great car to own. If you bought it maybe then he would get motivated to put his little go-fast toy on the other one.

How the HE77 does he know if it was or wasn't painted? Could have been before he got it and the seller told him it was never painted. There are painters out there and with the right amount of money you could paint an area or part to not have the telltale "it's been painted" look.

Thanks again guys. I was wondering the same things about the sport bar, but the more I looked at the rest of the stripes on it, the more I felt something wasn't right with those either. Very strange. I had searched for other white ones with the blue stripes and even sent the dealer the pics so he could see I was right. But he replied with an attitude saying it was all original and for me not to assume things when I haven't even seen the car. hehe. Well, missing stripes is all it takes for me to not want to see it or consider it. I thought I'd better come here to find out for sure before I start accusing him of being a thief. I thought maybe there was some reason they made some different but I guess not.

Thanks for the offer Mike! But the one I have now is black with the silver stripes! hehe. Sadly, I may be selling mine too. I'll have to put a pic up like alot of you have. You guys have some awesome rides!

I thought a 1996 Viper is a gen 2, meaning that Viper is a gen 2. Gen 1 was only the original RT's (92-95). Gen 2 was 96-98, and Gen 3 was 99-2002. Correct me if I'm wrong, I could be.

He took them off because he didn't like the look? And it somehow wasn't painted when he did this? The guy must be a talented man to take painted stripes off a car without messing up the paint. Some dealers will make up all kinds of bull.

The 96rt/10 is different than the 97,in that it it still used the lower horsepower engine,not the increased hp that went into the 97rt10,which is the same that went into the 96 gts

I know that the suspension was upgraded on the 96's but we still have the good ole bolt em in windows. No airbags either.

I just looked it up to make sure."the horsepower increase of the 96rt10 was partly the result of a lower restriction,rear exiting exhaust".

LOL, that's some funny stuff! Out of the dozen emails I've sent him arguing about the stripes, he not once said the owner took them off because he didn't like the look! That must be the brilliant excuse he came up with after I showed him pics of other cars with the right stripes. Incredible! Yea, I don't like the look of my stripes coming to a point on the hood so I think I'll cut the tips off mine! LOL!

AJ is correct....
The stripes were not painted, they were decals however the were put on under the clear so to take them off would have been a job...

A 96 rt/10 was still gen 1 engine with some modifications besides exhaust.. picked up extra 15 hp..suspension is gen 2...
