Hi,

I think it's time for a question from my side again :omg:

I have a '98 RT/10 built in November of that year. Thus it comes with the Gen 2 hood. Now I have noticed that in the `98 Dodge Viper sales brochure the roadsters shown all still have the Gen 1 hood.

In real life (including also the internet) however, I have never seen e.g. a silver RT/10 with a Gen 1 hood. So, my question is: have there ever been `98 models delivered with a Gen 1 hood or is it just that at the time they were doing the shootings for the `98 sales brochure (I would assume this took place in `97) they had not yet changed to production `98 MY? This also raises the general question, when exactly the new MY was "injected" into the production line??? As said, mine is from Nov. `98, so the switch to MY `99 (e.g. 18" rims, updated interior) must have taken place after that....

Any ideas?

ALL OVER
98 is completely gen2. the hoods changed mid 96.
silver was only avail 98/99 so yours is gen2, if you saw one with a gen 1 hood, it may have been in an accident and cheaply replaced

I have only seen it in the official sales brochure for 1998, that's why I am wondering?!

97 RT/10 still had the smooth hood so the brochure may have printed early...

I believe the was one silver '98 RT/10 that left CAAP with the "smoothie" GEN I hood. Everything else had the GEN II hood. I believe it's listed in "The Viper Buyers Guide." :)

Yes it's in the registry but why choose a mistake for the brochure plus what about the red ones in the pic ?

One '98 RT/10 (VIN 1B3ER65E*WV400408) was accidentally shipped with a "smooth hood and pre-'98 RT/10" facia. All other '98 RT/10's were manufactured with NACA duct and vented hood and GTS style front facia.

It also says: "'98 numbers include 12 pilot and pre-production units (6 roadsters and 6 coupes) which will not be sold." So probably, those used for the brochure were some of those...?!

But I'd still like to know, when in general production lines were switched to new MYs? Was is always January 2nd or earlier/later?

Makes me wonder if they also had a few RT/10s out there in 1997 with the older 415bhp '96 engine specs. I'm sure glad I have a '99 :) All the major changes have been made at least a year or two before mine was made, plus it still has the forged internals and the hot cam :) By the way, your Viper must really draw some attention in Deutschland....
