Please Help. I am finding pricing all up and down the $150-650 range for a simple set of 3.33/3.31 ring and pinion gears. Yes, I know the 650 is a kit, with all needed parts and such. But In general, im confused as to who some folks can sell their ring and pinions for $165, and others want as much as $400 for their gears.

The cheapest one, $165 is a 3.31/3.33 that is SUPOSED to fit in the viper, but it originally made for a 84-92 corvette. Is this true, does this gear work and is RELIABLE in the viper ??

It also seems that since I have a 2002 viper, everyone is offering sleeves to be installed in my carier to use the smaller bolts. Insight please folks ??!!

Thank you.

Give Unitrax a call. I looked into this about a year ago and after speaking with them and several others I would not have felt comfortable going with anything else but the right size bolts for the gears and pinion.

Think about it, this is certainly the one place you don't want a failure to occur over a few $$$. I have always been told cars drivetrains should be built from the back to the front. All the power in the world want do any good if you can't get it to the ground effectively and consistently.

Good luck

No they are not all the same - the low cost units are Dana 44's. Gen 1's and earlier vettes had the smaller gear set. Stick with the Gen 2 or Super 44's. The pinion gear and shaft are much larger. There are a lot of good vendors available on this board, however, that is Unitrax's only business. They are A1 to deal with.

Yeah, and I like unitrax, dont get me wrong. But keeping more money in my pocket and less in a vendors just seems somehow.. SMART in my mind. And I dont mean that pricing is bad, but the consumer wins when there is competition. Just wondering , all things being equal, who would have the best price on the ideal set. Thats all.

Just make sure everyone quotes the Super 44's and also supplies all shims, gaskets, straps, bolts, calibration box and the knowledge to kit everything correctly. If something is not right you will be starting over and out your initial investment.

I am also a VERY satisfied customer of Devin King at Unitrax!!!! Not only are they EXTREMELY price competitive, but their SERVICE has been awesome and they appear to be the most skilled in their specialty that I've ever seen.

FWIW, I can't imagine anyone being cheaper than their prices, comparing apples to apples. Heck, that was one of the major reasons I started doing business with them years ago in the first place.

And, if that's not enough for you, consider the fact that they are generally one of the very first vendors to step up as sponsors for VCA events when asked.

Thanks Unitrax....... you have my business forever!

Also make sure that you get a top-notch gear installer to do the work. I recently put in a set of Unitrax 3.55 gears and they burned up within the first 500 warm-up miles. The installer said that it was my abuse, but I think that he installed them improperly.

I just passed 500 miles on my second gear set, and there is no noise this time, so it should be fine. I had these same guys put Dana Super 44 4.10 gears in my last Corvette and everything went fine that time.
