Randomtech Catback Install.... help

Anyone here installed Randomtech Catback? Tried to install the system yesterday but the shop said that the muffler is too long and they are affraid of cutting the exhaust pipe because it will be going thru the bend and that it might not line up properly and that the side skirt might not fit properly also. I am keeping the OE Cat with this install.
Anyone did anything to install this properly? I will be calling Randomtech tomorrow to see if they just send me the wrong size muffler. I like how the tips on this system it is far better than the stock but I am hoping that this thing works. I am attaching a pic of it. Please chime in for any input. I will really appreciate any input I can get.
I have the car now at home and wowwww it is loud without that muffler. I have to take her home co'z I don't want to leave her in the shop. Any other shop that I should bring her in? I live in central NJ.

I had RT stainless Hi-Flows and a Corsa.
Put it on myself, a oiece of cake.
Get rid of those rediculously choking stock cats!

that doesnt look like a oe replacement exhaust. Why did they sell you a cat back that wont fit a factory sized cat?It looks like you need a shorter cat.

Have your muffler shop turn your stock cats into high flow cats. Cut the stock cat in half where you see the weld in the middle. The front portion of the cat will be re-attached to the flex pipe elbow.

Take the rear portion of the cat and cut the cone end off and re-weld it to back of the attached cat. Weld a 3" pipe to it and connect it to your side resonator. You now have a high flow cat that's more durable then most aftermarket cats out there. Flow's and sounds better then OEM and passes strict CA emissions testing.

Or.....you can spend 500 bucks on after market high flow cats.


BTW, I suspect Random Tech designed it not to fit with the stock cats so that they'll get more of your money when you discover they won't work with your stock cats. Smart marketing on their part. I suspect Random tech high flow cats will fit perfectly in there. ;)

I'm not sure why you would want to keep those choking oe cats???? I have the Random Tech system with the Random Tech cats that you can get from Parts Rack cheaper than from Random Tech direct! Swap out the cats with the hi-flows and you will be EXTREMELY pleased. It will all bolt right on. I know I am pleased with this setup and I get many comments on how good my exhuast now sounds!

That's a pretty good mod to a stock cat. I had never seen that before. Not to mention the 20lbs you'll lose since both cats are 20lbs a piece.

I have Randomtechs catback and I used Sean Roes high flo cats. I think they were $250-$300 for the pair. Along with my Borla headers this is the best sounding exhaust system I've heard! You will not be disappointed!

RT high flow cats are less than $300 for the PAIR from PartsRack. 3" all the way through vs. 2.5" oem.

Thanks viperrt96, but I can't take credit for that one. I comes from my vipertech who has been around Vipers since the beginning and has probably forgotten more about Vipers then I'll ever know. The stock cats are restrictive because they are essentially two cats welded end to end. Why Dodge did that, I'll never know. Maybe they were over cautious for the purposes of emissions. Cut the cones where they are 3" and you have a 3" cat. Just a matter of some simple cutting and welding.

As to durability and longevity, in all my time around Vipers, I have never heard of a stock cat failing. They are virtually bullet proof and built better then most after markets. I have however, heard of numerous occassions of Random Tech ceramic cats failing. I've seen at least two where they were completely hollowed out. One got so hot that it burned the paint on the side sill and melted the plastic covers that cover the side sill screws.

Anyone running cats and a Roe S/C with a rich #10 cylinder should check their passenger side cat. All the unburned fuel from the #10 cylinder is burning up in that cat.

If I had a choice I'd go catless but California SMOG II testing is pretty tough.

Thanks for the response guys. Right now I am talking to Dave of randomtech and he is researching it. I am thinking to go catless before but from what I heard it will be too loud for me and NJ emission is also an issue. I will try to talk to the shop and see if VPRVENM97 suggestion will be fine while waiting for randomtech to get back to me.

Update...
Just got a hold of jonB of partsrack and after explaining to him on what I got, he gave me the best solution and it is to install a hi flow cats and will ship it to me overnight so I don't have much of downtime. What a service. I will recomend jonB to everybody who is looking for viper parts or anything in between.

And while you are doing all that cutting and welding polishing that ****, cut off the 2.5" inlet and outlet and weld on some 3" tube

LOL!!!!

OK, I'm doing the same exact setup on my 98' GTS and am having the exact same problem that NOTV8 had. The Randomtech mufflers are indeed too long for a direct bolt on fit. I ordered a pair of 3" Roe HF cats which are 23" in length. In order to have this system fit right, you have to cut some length off of the outlet pipe on the HF cats. I haven't done the exact measurements yet but I'm thinking about 5" or so. I will post back once I have done the install this week. Randomtech or any vendors selling the RT catback should tell people that it WILL NOT bolt right on with the stock cat and that there is no way to get them to bolt on correctly unless you get HF cats!
