I am going to paint the lower center area of the rear on my 03 SRT-10 covertible like many have. The car is silver. I have read where people have painted it black. Should that be a glossy black like the rest of the car or more flat??? Any pics of a silver one with this done would help. I thank everyone who has given me feedback on all my questions recently, but I value the opinions on this board and I want this thing to go together right.

So far this is what I am doing to my silver SRT-10 vert once the weather breaks:
- Change all emblems to GTS blue
- Install ACR stripe in GTS blue
- Install Hennessey spoiler (the ACR stripe will go to the top of the spoiler and stop--it will not continue down the back of the car)
- Install "real" roll bars from Jon B (not sure the color)
- Paint brake calipers GTS Blue
- Paint lower rear facia black
- Paint center dash GTS Blue

I think that is it and these changes will enhance the silver color. Please comment as you like. Thanks everyone for your input as always. :)

Ditto on the matte black. Silver with blue accents has always been one of my favorite color combos.

As soon as it warms up I will be painting my facia also. I will paint it myself. A body shop told me to use brand SEM number 39143 Trim Black (a spray can), its a matte finish. Matte to me is not really flat, it has some sheen to it and I would describe it as a satin finish.

Two suggestions for you to consider:

I would consider taking the back GTS blue stripe over the back of the spoiler 1 or 2 inches so it could be seen from behind.

I wonder how the lower facia would look painted GTS blue which would match your stripes.

Just something to think about.

The rear bumper of my Silver SRT is in the body shop as we speak. I am having the lower facia done in matte black, and all the decals done in black. I can posts pix of the final product, likely early next week.

It's personal preference. I'm painting mine gloss black to match my gloss black center band. Obviously from the factory it's a matte finish.

Shoot me a pm of who's doing yours and the cost for the rear fascia work.

Definitely post pics. I'm leaving my facia silver, but I want to see how the black emblems look on a silver car. I've been thinking about the same thing.

I bought the car with what looks like "aftermarket" diffuser fins. They are stainless steel. I wonder just how black would look like with stainless steel fins??? Or, can stainless be painted???

Does anyone have an answer or opinion on the above???

My car is in the shop now getting stripes on it (Silver also). I went with the back section in the same black as the stripes. I amalso having the stripes done similar to the comp coupe stripes (not as wide though). Anyway the shop recommended that when the stripes end into the black at the rear it would be best to have the color match. If your doing the ACR stripe only I think it ends at the rear deck lid and not down the back so flat black you could get away with.

On mine I painted the fins Silver, should give you an idea of the stainless ones. If you paint the lower bumper black, you could also consider to add this bumper insert, done in Silver it sets the car apart from the crowd. Just a tought.

Personally, I would paint them black. More than likely, you can remove the stainless part anyway and put it back to the stock look. If not, scuff the stainless slightly with a scotch-brite pad and then paint it black to match. Painting stainless is no different than painting anything else. You just have a better base to work on than you would with carbon steel.

I would like to see also. Thinking of adding silver stripe and rear fascia matte black.

Thanks for the pic. I like it. What you did really dresses up the rear of the car. :2tu:
