WOW!!,

First, the crowd was enormous, there was cars and motorcycles of every brand on hand, with every performance adder you can imagine!

It was CHAOTIC!! You could race for NO TIME(not even the people in the control tower knew what you ran) Heads up, Handicapped, whatever. One race was a car against a motorcycle for $ 2000.00
Whens the last time you saw a motorcycle and a car race side-by-side at the dragstrip?

Our first victim was the ULTIMATE KILL!!!!!. I only wish i would have brought my movie camara! A Ferarri Maranallo 550. It was a nice looking car, silver, 1997 but looked brand new with 7000 miles. The driver was anxious to bragg and show us the 485 HP v-12 engine! He said he paid $ 208,000.00 for it! We ended up racing for a gentlemans bet of $ 20 bucks. He ran a loosing 13.43 @ 108 mph. A very nice fellow although so devistated by his defeat that he left the track immediately after our race. The night was young and we wanted more victims!

There were no other vipers on hand, lots of Stangs, CRX's, Supras, and the like. We could not find a race other than good ole' Big Block Chevy Powered Drag Cars.

Our final run of the night was on the Nitrous and I layed down a
10.39 at over 135 mph. They crowded around our trailer like Russians at the cheese line!

We definately look forward to attending this event(which i believe is held once a month or so) more often.

thanks for reading,

tom

Ferrari's are beautiful, and are certainly well engineered. Nonetheless, I will still take my good ol' Dodge over a $208,000 car that doesn't get into the 12's in the 1/4 mile. Oops, make that $208,020.

I once cruised with a pack of Ferrari's, 10 to be specific, all the way from the Canadian border in Vermont to Boston. 350 miles in all. We were returning from the F1 of Montreal. Here's my story.

We had a very long wait clearing immigration. It took us over an hour. Once clear, we gathered together on the American side and waited for everybody and then wrrrrooooooom we were off. There were 13 cars in all, 10 Ferraris, a 911 Turbo, a SL600 and my Viper GTS. Among the Ferraris, there was a F40, 3 512s, 5 355s and a 308. We took turns leading and started cruising at speed ranging from 80mph - 140mph. Mind you this is not the wide open west where such speeds might be normal in some places.

The Ferraris were not really holding any of their horses back when they were accelerating down the straights. So when it was my turn to lead, I naturally was eager to prove that the Viper does bite. So when I gunned it, I'd see the Ferraris get smaller in the mirror until I had to back off the gas and "cruise" at 140mph. They would eventually catch up but always a few seconds later.

At a fuel stop, they all came up to me and congratulated me on an excellent vehicle. They all chorused that there was no way they could keep up with me once I hit the pedal from 80mph to 140mph.

So there you go, Ferraris look cool and are definitely desirable. But nothing compares to the stellar price performance of the Viper, the original torque monster. And BTW, that was the most exciting automobile moment in my life due to the sustained nature of such high speeds. Thankfully the cops were having donuts.

Regretful,

we ran 11.40's on motor. Car has only headers and cat back, and is otherwise STOCK.

Tires were m/t e.t. streets on rear with bias ply front runners on Purner wheels.

We have ran 10's on radials, a video of that is on my website at Http://btrviper.com(i don't ever recall seeing another viper run 10's on ANY radial tire before)

thanks

tom

The 550 is worth a drive if you get a chance. It's built like a vault, amazingly smooth and pretty fast - especially on an open road.

While not an 11.40 car by any means, it may be a bit quicker than a 13.4 machine. With traction control defeated, the 550 is severely traction impared. Small-ish tires and decent torque equal little to zero hook-up until third gear without pedaling it. Though doubt drag racing is what Ferrari had in mind when they created the 550, it's kinda cool the guy brought it out, I think.

Regarding the Z-06. Perhaps it might have the measure of a 550 on a tight circuit (550 is 4000lbs.). The 550 will have more legs on a faster course. The better driver will be quickest in either car, most likely.

Over all, though, the 550 guy probably cares about as much as the Viper guy who gets beat by a hot-rodded Supra.

Merry Christmas, Viperheads!
