Im looking for a set of tires to throw on my viper, i want something that will give me the best peace of mind that my rear wont whip out.

I care more about the rear not tail whipping then comfort. I have read around a lot but dont know whats best to use in this situation?

Im not sure if i read/understood this correctly but, runflats will give you more comfort but tend to whip out more, on the other hands non-runflats can give you a grippier feel/ will help prevent your rear from whipping out?

I mostly do a lot of street driving, barely track. my main thing like i said is a grippy tire.

PS 2's hands down!! I did unfortunately lost control passing a car on the interstate (did a complete 360)after I recovered myself, I did not drive it until I replaced those stink-en RUNCRAPS!!!!!!!!!!!

PS 2's made all the difference in the world, their quiet and they hold the road. It's like a whole new driving experience. I'm sold on them.

Just my 2 cents worth.

PS 2's is what I use for the street. On the the track the Pilot Sport Cup. We don´t have Nitto Tires here in Sweden so I have no idea about them. Kumho tires feels a bit to budget to put on a Viper...

It sounds like a Honda Civic might be the car for you. The tail NEVER 'whips out'. Joking.....

The stiffer sidewall of the run flats makes the tire a little less compliant on small bumps and makes the tire more likely to slide laterally - even if the tread rubber compound is the same. So forget about the run flats. I've tried the PS2's and they work really well. They stick well, wear well and get to temp fairly quickly. Be warned that their good grip comes at the expense of poor cold grip. They warm quickly but are terrible when cold.

***NOTE***(No matter the tire you choose for your viper use extreme caution when temps under 45) Keep the foot off the throttle

PS'2 Way sticky
PS'2 Ride way way better....way way better, did I say way better yea way better!

Hoosier R6 So sticky you will enjoy hearing loose roadway pinging the underside of your car but you will stick to the road like "stink on crap"
Hoosier R6 not exactly daily driver tires:D

I would be interested to hear comparison between the PS'2 and the Sport Cups that are OEM on the ACR for both stick and longgevity:dunno:

im sold on PS 2's then.
NOT SO FAST THERE GIDDY BOY:eater:... KUMHOS are just as good as the PS2s IMO... Just because they dont cost as much as the PS2s only means you don't have to spend so much money for equal performance:drive:;) I use Kumohos and they are every bit what the average or above average driver needs for what and how you drive trust me:) good luck in your search :2tu:

I have the Kumho XS on my coupe and they are great!! Very sticky with a better ride and enhanced handling. I can't give a comparison with the others, but I'm happy.:2tu:

im in south florida so cold weather isn't a problem.

Don't get cold weather and cold tires mixed up! Unless Florida is normally at about 200 degrees F you'll always start driving on cold tires.

For Cups the operating temps are between 160 and 220F. This is difficult to obtain on the street so I wouldn't recommend cups for street use.

I've tried both PS2's and cups at the track and on the street. For the track the cups stuck more and lasted longer. For the street the PS2's worked better - mostly because they got some temp sooner.

Surprisingly you can even get some heat in the cups when it's wet.

I've never tried the Hoosiers but one of the local guy runs them at the track. He get's good stick but he's getting terrible wear on the front. He's replacing the fronts almost every track day.

I am confused when Mark states the Kumho tire is HUGE on the rim and rubs. If his car is factory height and you match the same oem size to the factory PS 2s, the measurements should be the same all the way around. Maybe his car is lowered and I missed that part. Mark, whats up with this?

Don't forget the weight.
PS2.......26 front 34 rear
runflat...31 38
kumo......28 41
Makes a difference if you bought the ACR wheels and stop tech rotors, like I just did. I wasn't to happy with the PS2 when I saw them as they have 2.5" of rain grooves. I was wishing I'd bought the Kumo's and then I checked the weight. And now I've driven on them....great tire. Major improvemant in ride quality and grip........

I personally LIKE the backend to come out but hey

PS2's (I have them on my Viper, they are AWSOME)

Kumho XS (new tire, can get from tirerack)

Nitto has a new tire, I believe the NT 05, summer tire, high performance

I run the Nitto 555RII's on my track car (roadrace), they are frickin' AWSOME, stick like GLUE, not so good in the rain, standing water anyway they aren't:)

I love it when I can "whip that thing out " a little steering and pedal control usually brings her back in line

THANKS! The new Kumho XS has only been out for about 1 month in VIPER REAR SIZES....so we all will appreciate some track-rat-writeups.

Look forward to it, and WATCH YOUR TIRE PRESSURES.... be ready to add a couple front PSI if they understeer-push a bit at first, or especaily when heated.

really and truly, you should get the PS 2 Cup tires, like on the ACR.They have a treadwear rating of 80, as opposed to the 180 on the Kumho's, 220 on the PS 2's, and 260 on the NITTO's. The PS 2 Cup will plain ol' out handle them all. They're the stickiest rubber you'll find for the Viper for the street
