I've got my front O2's in the single down tube as supplied on the headers by Belanger. I'm going to do the SCT tune by Viper Specialty and Dan said I should really have the sensors in the merge collectors.

Short of turning this into another debate on sensor locations let's just say I'm going to do what my tuner suggests.

I've seen some other posts about how people put them in on top of the merge collector and it seems like there are always obstructions to deal with making the installation kind of a pain. Maybe it's because the wires will reach when they're mounted there?

I was thinking about doing it like this. See pics. Plenty of room, out of the tire spray debris field, and I have great wiring skills to extend the car side of the wire harness to reach.

Any opinions?

That's where I put mine as I didn't want to drill though that heat shield. The downside, maybe, is that you're not really catching flow from all 5 tubes in that location. The only issue I had in that location was that the stock O2 sensors would throw that heater circuit code 'cause they don't heat up fast enough I guess. I switch to the quick-fire O2 sensor from DC Performance and problem solved.

That's a good point, as yours are actually past the collector and into the pipe itself. Will have to look at that some more...

What's the one I see peeking out from below? Wide band? Or is that the one on the pipe in front?

In my pic, the O2 sensor you see up top is the wideband sensor. The O2 is actually in the collector at the bottom right. I welded the O2's almost exactly where your arrows point to in your pics.

what about the "pickle" will you clear it there?

I'm pretty sure there won't be clearance issues. I mean, if nothing else, that's where Tony has his.
You can see in the pics that the sensor is not that big, and the pickle looks to have plenty of room around it.

I'm probably going to send a note to Dan at Viper Specialty to get his opinion on whether the merge collector
or the turnout would be better. I'd rather weld on the collector than the turnout though.

My O2's are mounted in the forward most tube of the flange, so they are only reading the front three cylinders. They are at the 10 o'clock position (looking from the side of the car).
Your thread on reaming out the sensors did away with thowing codes. :2tu:

My wideband is mounted where your arrow is, only at 10'oclock. Seems to work very well. Only down side is you have to remove the aluminum heat shields to get to them.

Hi Guys,

While it is true that the further down the pipe the O2 is, the better "average" reading it is going to take, it will also begin to delay the rate at which the PCM can make adjustments. It takes time for the exhaust gases to reach the O2, and as a rule, the closer the O2 is to the head, the better. I would advise putting it before the flange, in the Y tube. While it wont be 100% mixed/average by that point, it is going to be very close- and would offer better response than is it was placed 8-12" further down the pipe.

Mine are pretty much exactly where the OEM sensors were. The original Belangers came with a **** welded in there.....looking straight up at the aluminum cover plate. The OEM sensor wire is long enough to reach the connector with a little re-routing...as are the Quick Fire sensors.
