hey guys, i got the rear mufflers out, but it's still not loud enough. now im thinking about either getting the resonators out OR getting the cats/resonators out. with both out would it be too ear-bleeding loud? Do any check engine codes go on?

My cats and rear mufflers are removed on my otherwise pretty stock 98 and I have a 3" Random Tech cat back with the crossover and it's about as loud as you want to be on the street.

Ok... An answer I can give!...

If you remove the cats you will have to disable/override the second O2 sensors or you will get a code. It should be easy enough with a tuner like an SCT or similar.

Now I have a question... You mention the muffler delete was not loud enough... But what changed. I would imagine it did get louder. Did it get deeper/throat ire? Did you get more drone in the cabin?

I was thinking of going with a muffler delete and a resonator delete. There is a lot of pipe on these cars. I was wondering how it changes. How bad is it in the car? Too much drone?

I have no cats, resonators or mufflers and its annoyingly loud. I like it that way, but I don't drive it every day. If it was a DD, I'd put the mufflers back on.

Alright... That helps!

So is it worth only the muffler delete in back? Or is it too loud?

I got two straight pipes welded on the back in place of the muffler. Cost me $60......and no its not too loud at all. Louder and bubblier than stock for sure, but not bad.........which is why I'm ang about the resonators.......

Delete just the sidesill mufflers and youve still got heat and restriction from the cats. Delete both them and the cats and will sound like crap.(a local guy did this and it sounded like he was dragging a bunch of empty soda cans under the car). Delete just the cats might still be to loud and or crappy for you, but its worth a shot since its its so easy to do. This might lead you to going with hi-flow cats or replacing with some other type of muffler like a moroso spiral or the common straight-thru preforated tube type.

Ya, it's sure not meant to be a long term thing.......just until I have the extrta coin to spend on a catback system. I want louder, but not at the expense of sounding like I'm dragging pop cans and I don a check engine light. I think I'm just going to hold out I guess. Thanks for the help
