Hello my friend..Finally, next saturday i'll have to get my viper..but...there is a problem...

yesterday i went to seller to check that the car was ready to retire....and i saw..under the soft top a couples of resin drop..Not resin air bubbles..but appears like hard drop glue falled there..At this point, i checked every square inch and i noted that there are other couples of resin under license plate (here in italy we have a large plate that cover trunk) and other smallest, in the hood (low side)..
Seller told me that this is a normal resin problem..after some year, it can happens...He calls this like a resin cancer..He told that now he use a fine scrubs and replace trasparent paint...

What do you think about?

i'm sad.... :...(

Take some pics and show us what you mean. Is it just drops of resin glue? OR maybe tree sap? Don't take off the clearcoat if it's just something on top of the paint, otherwise you need to repaint....if the bubbles are under the clearcoat, then it is something many Vipers have. I heard the moisture from the molding process was trapped beneath the paint and could not evaporate through it, forming bubbles....

i have no pics now.. You can imagine trasparent half sphere..When i saw them, i thinked that was wet drop..I pass my hand to dry it..but they was hard..They appear like "fake rain drop". They are no steel grey coloured (car is steel grey) but trasparent like water.. I told him that is tree sap...but he told me that is not from tree but from inside...
Today he called me and he tried to polish and make teflon treatment but drop removing has formed a little crater on the trasparent paint..
Now i think that he'll use finest sandpaper on all body and replace trasparent paint..

Is he taking off the clearcoat and getting it resprayed? Sounds a bit strange to me? Is he actually doing the work himself or having a professional body shop do the work. If he starts to polish away the clearcoat or even use sandpaper without having any experience with paintwork, I would be very worried.

I know many GTS Vipers have the same issue around the gas cap....bubbles in the paint, but the only way to fix them is a respray of the area.

I've seen tiny micro bubbles, created by the resin degassing. I'm talking smaller than a pinhead. They can be color sanded out. What your describing sounds like a repaint of a repair, but you never know.

My B/W GTS has several little bubbles on the front of the clamshell hood near the headlights. Ive seen them on others as well. Add to that the slight wavynes of the paint and being able to actually faintly see the fiberglass flakes under the paint on the roof under certain lighting. All normal parts of an old fiberglass car. Have you seen older vettes with original paint?

I personally wouldnt think to repaint over the natural character of the car unless imperfections were really bad. I do see how some might prefer a respray to achieve a "show quality" finish though.

Ya, if I were you, I would keep the flaws on your B/W... Proves car hasn't been repainted!!! Especially on the hood!

If you don't have to pay any extra, it will definitely be for the better. Might as well get a perfect car. Keep us updated with any progress. cheers!

i'll have not to pay extra..It wasn't a money problem but i worried because i understood what was this drops, hoping that this bobbles will not born again in future. Seller told me about "resin's mushroom" but i don't believe it..and i wouldn't appear like a gullible person with him..
Imho this is tree resin..because when i saw this viper the first time some months ago, i don't remember this problem..and it's not possible that i didn't see..

Not repainting something proves there was at least no prior damage!! This refers to my post #16.

mmm it is difficult for me explain the situation because i'm italian..
I try to summarize.

I saw this viper some months ago. I bought her but before to retire, i asked to apply stripes, paint wheels and other little changes.

Tomorrow i could retire but some days ago, i went to seller and i saw this little imperfection that i had not see before.. Dialer tried to polish body to eliminate this little drops but this work has been not good..Then, he decided to replace trasparent paint in large part body for deleted every little defect.

Hello fellow Pisan, I was referring to Dom's post.. Sorry for the confusion... Yes, if you are not happy with those imperfections and they are noticeable, they should be taken car of to your satisfaction. If that requires paint work.. I say go for it...I hope the car serves you well... I know you will enjoy it once you receive it...
