I'm seriously contemplating the Roe SC setup for my '98 but was concerned over a couple of issues I keep hearing about. BTW, I've done a search but apparently I'm not using the right search phrase. Anyways, one issue I hear about is the increased intake temperature and what I'm understanding is you guys are compensating with a water /methy injection system. My question is how does this extra heat translate with regards to the overall engine temp? I do alot of in-town driving where there is a lot of stop and go situations. Right now, my engine temp does fine, never going over the tick mark before 250 and in most instances, hovering just past the 190 mark. This is in 95 degree weather. Will a Roe affect this while driving in town? What's the reliability factor of a Roe setup? I like to drive my cars without having to be constantly concerned with potential issues while on the road or worst yet having a failure somewhere out on the road away from home. I know, I know....if I'm that concerned, by a D^mn Toyota!

The reason I'm looking at the Roe versus the Paxton is cost, and being able to do a self-install.

I have not noticed any change in the engine temp once I installed my Roe SC and I do quite a bit of city type driving at times. This has included driving in 95-100 degree temps at times.

The Roe SC is sensitive to external air temperatures and the tuning can change quite a bit when the temperature changes. That is the biggest downside to the Roe in my own experience. Some people claim that they can tune it once and never touch it again, but that has not been my experience.

BTW, the water/methanol injection is to cool the intake air and reduce the chance of detonation as well as to allow the engine to make more power by running more timing. It is not to keep the actual engine cool and I do not think it has any reas affect on that.

I know as soon as I post, 100 people will tell you something else. But here goes

The harder you run the car the hotter it gets.

In town stop and go with 8lb or smaller pulley I have seen little different's with engine temps.

Water/**** is more about making power, not to keep the engine cool.

For the reliability factor, The only problem so far was the power steering pulley.

How much power is enough?
For me 600+ rwhp is just fine for the street, as for the strip I need more.

If 575 to 600 rwhp can keep you happy its a nice bang for your buck.

Just my .02

Based on what you guys are telling me, this is the way I want to go then. I like messin' around with my car but only on MY terms. In other words, I don't want to have to screw with unexpected crap coming up all the time that takes away from the joy of driving the thing! And as for the HP, 600 is plenty for me...............for now. If I need more, I'll just throw some funny gas on it!

Thanks guys!

This was my reason for going with Roe along with outstanding customer support.
Anytime you deviate from the factory setup there will be issues. The added performance outweighs the few quirks that I have experienced.

Roe is working on the issue about tuning changes with air temps.

My car runs cooler under boost with the water methanol than it did before the water methanol was added.

I sure hope so. Not looking forward to the air temps I'm probably going to see at VOI9 in Las Vegas.

If you like to tinker, it's not a bad deal. Just make sure you have a laptop you can use for tuning and a wideband O2 sensor installed on the car.

Good point, any heat related issues would be exacerbated by the higher boost pulleys. I'm running a fairly modest 6.5lb pulley. A 10 or 12lb pulley might be a different story for causing heat build-up in the engine.
