RT/10 Exhaust - Open Headers and Custom Pipes

Hey guys, I’m having some work done on my ‘93 antenna car. My dad and I took the exhaust off and sent them to the muffler shop. I’ve got a couple videos posted on YouTube of it now. Please subscribe. I’m going to continue to post the progress. I’m also going to do another video after of a comparison of the Stock Exhaust, Open Headers and Custom Exhaust.

I have a 95 purchased last spring. Love the car but the stock sound is pretty sad. Some research says high flow cats will dramatically reduce the sill heat.
I am also in metro ATL and know we no longer need to deal with emissions. But thought maybe the high flow cats would still be a good idea to maintain proper back pressure. Are you going catless ?
Anxious to see and hear how this all this works out for you. I have been wanting to find a quality shop to do this.

Yes, I am going catless on mine. A high flow cat doesn’t really hold any back pressure either way, but an engine needing back pressure is really a myth. It really only negatively effects how it runs if it’s an OBDII car. The OBDI cars can adjust for the higher air flow through the engine. The OBDII cars have rear O2 sensors that are only looking for cat efficiency.

Aluminized pipe is fine. The ceramic coating I did was on the paint.

Those race mufflers sound just about as loud a the open headers. They do sound awesome. But,no way I could live with that. I do early morning weekend drives and my neighbors would kill me.

Hoping you could provide contact info for the shop. Hopefully, they have some other options to improve the lame OEM sound and something not as loud as the race mufflers.

Lol, yea they are pretty loud. I’m sure my neighbors hate me now, haha. I love it though. Any muffler shop should be able to do something for you. I bought the mufflers from Summit Racing and just had them weld the pipes up.

I had Borla exhaust put in no cats. I think mine sound like yours, maybe even little louder. Wrapped the pipes in Airplane wrap to keep the heat down. Still bubbling the paint. Did you use ceramic paint on the sills so it wouldn't bubble? Paint mine twice now. Does yours backfire. Mine backfires every once in awhile. So when I see a police car I slightly step on the gas so it doesn't backfire and it is not as loud. I also bought the floor insulation to cut down on the heat in the interior of the car. There were some areas that were directly open into the car and it really help to keep the heat down and quiet it in the interior. Still sounds good but on longer trips keeps the drone down. Have to turn up the radio to hear it and my wife has to raise her voice so I can hear her. Makes a perfect car. I have all the original parts for the car and kept the original exhaust assembly. Really like this car.

The inside of my side skirts were covered in fiberglass insulation before I got it. The floor has also already been covered. The sides skirts do not get hot at all anymore. They barely get a little bit warm. Mines not too bad, but it does drone some around 1500 rpm. I kept the original cats and mufflers, but it was easier just to have that part cut out. Mine doesn’t backfire, but it does rumble and pop if you back out of the gas. It sounds pretty awesome. When I see a cop, I just push the clutch in and go to idle, lol.

LOL I've tried that trick. But when I do that fumes build up and it can backfire. So keeping a little pressure on the gas stops it from backfireing and I don't have to worry about bullets flying my way from the cop car. When it does it is really loud. Kind of fun but was wondering if it could be damaging something. I think I get about 24 miles per gallon on the HWY if I keep it at 70 mph. It just idles.
