Russ Oasis has a good shot in the letters to the editor (Backfires) section on Viper ACR pp.18

ACR objectively wins its class in 20 of 21 measured categories at VIR. :2tu:

The article title was "TRACK MEAT". Sounds like that means they are looking for the best track cars in a model line....but wait...... odd that neither the Zo6 or ZR1 was used.

Sure has the appearance that someone was not fond of having either of the top vette models in the LL3 category along with the Viper and GT-R and chose to use the base vette with Z51 suspension to let it compete in the lower class of LL2 against the likes of an EVO, Honda Civic Si, Infiniti G37, even the new CTS-v , etc.

The article almost excuses it as ...... while the z06 is a more serious track car, the base vette with z51 will satisfy all but the most demanding...... and save them as much as $23k in the process.

Thank you and we'll have to look for it. Track Rats will be interested for sure.

I could be reading into it, but it seems the editors at C/D are interested in testing new or revised cars in the annual Lightning Lap--hence, the Cobalt SS (now with a turbo instead of supercharger), Corvette (revised engine and transmission), ACR (new for 08), CTS-V (ditto), etc. and, failing that, to not bring any cars that have previously run the LL. The Z06 competed in 2006, the first year of the Lightning Lap, and, since nothing has changed on the car, has not been invited back since.

I have more of a problem with the article Oasis' letter addresses, from the August issue. The ACR wins at the track, in a test to find the best track car, but the Nissan takes top spot in the comparo? Because it's "the supercar that mom and the kids can enjoy together" and that "everyone, down to your Aunt Phyllis, can enjoy"? Give me a break...

Mom, kids and grandma would ruin the performance of the car with their extra 4-600 pounds I'd think. Does the car have a computerized adjusted suspension for the extra weight distribution? or does the "supercar's" handling, stopping and acceleration go into the dumpster with all those people?

"Supercar that Mom and the kids can enjoy" and "best track car" are in the same paragraph? Does VIR allow the whole family in the car during racing?

How'd the ACR rate for cupholders?
