Supercharged or not supercharged, cats can catch fire if racing too much the snake at low speeds. Check those Vipers that Dodge uses for Road rally demonstration (speed is usually below 70mph). After 2-3 hours of racing the Vipers are usually smoking from the side sills. => End of the race. When stock Vipers are pooled out from "street races" usually it is caused by the overheated cats. This is what I have seen until now, maybe I am wrong.
If the VEC2 and/or ignition screws up on a supercharged Viper, in the worst case scenario it will cause a rear bumper fire which will burn until all fuel is consummed from the exhauste. It should only cause a minor domage.
I am really currious about the real cause of this trouble.
