It's VERY painful... I tried about 20 times, and the woman tried it about 5, one of those times was magic, as it's now good. Bothing different than the isntructions was done, it just worked.
It does say it will "ding" or something when the setting takes, that is false (at least it didn't do it on mine) it just stopped dinging.
Worked for me first time. When doing the three-step latching, watch the indicator light. There is a short delay and I surmise that you must allow the light to go off before unlatching and come on before re-latching so the computer senses the three independent latch/unlatch cycles. I did not get the confirming chime that the manual promises.
Much nicer when backing into my driveway and garage!
