Question for some drag racers out there- I think I shift too early in 2nd and 3rd. When exploring the upper rpm ranges, what speed are you running at 2nd prior to shift and then at 3rd?

Thanks-

:D :rolaugh: Just kidding. I'd like to know the right shift rpm's as well.:2tu:

I've been playng a little at the drag strip and found if I shifted at about 5600 it yeilded my best time- 11.75
Peak HP is acheived at 5600 and peak torque is 4600.
If you go above 5600 you really are not acheiving much and risk bouncing off the rev limiter.

Question for some drag racers out there- I think I shift too early in 2nd and 3rd. My problem is that I am 5'8 and the top of the steering wheel blocks the top range of the tach when looking down at it... so my shifting is generally seat-of-pants and wailing engine :)

I can tilt the wheel up a bit but I dont like that feel. I can see the speedo fine - in general, when exploring the upper rpm ranges, what speed are you running at 2nd prior to shift and then at 3rd?

Thanks-

How about a programable shift light mounted where you can see it??

If you're stock or mostly stock, use the shift light. It works.

Keep in mind that your tach is likely a bit behind your engine's actual rpm.

Because the peak power is at 5600, because of what Viper X said and because it takes a bit to execute the shift, I usually begin the shift about 50 to 100 RPM below the 5600 RPM point.

I have the Raptor shift light-really like it. I set the shift light to come on at 5500 and by the time I react to light & shift the rpm is higher. If I set the light to come on at higher rpm sometimes I will get into the rev limiter.

Where'd you buy it?
Where'd you mount it?
Got any pics of it mounted?
(Sorry to hit you with 3 Q's at once:D )

TIA:2tu:
