I just don't get the whole "show off stuff", do you think anyone really cares? What do you really expect to get out of it? I agree with the above, if I saw some old fart going though my HS parking lot in a Viper, I think I would be looking at the guy and wondering if he was on crack or something. Or maybe the poor guy just got divorced and needed someone to look at him...

When I go to the mall, it's to shop, not to show off the car. To some, it's automatic that I'm there just to get attention....I'd rather not. Driving a Viper is exactly like being Ben Afleck(sp?) You get tired real quick of the attention and the same f'in J-Lo questions over and over. Some people say I look exactly like Tom Green. Trust me, it's not a good thing. The point is, I drive the car because I like it, not because other people do! or don't. Yesterday, I was at a traffic light in my dad's 6-ton Chevy cube truck. It's a '78 ragged on delivery vehicle. A guy in a gold Prowler drives by and I start thinking, what a ****. It's natural I guess, but at least I don't drive a V6 with an automatic!

I could do without the attention, I like fast cars since I was 10, so I bought a fast car.

Sometimes at a light and you glance around and have 8 fixated pairs of eyes on you I wish I was in my daily driver, that is until the light turns green!!:D

People buy these cars for different reasons I guess, I'll share the car with anyone that shows an interest in it, give rides, allow pics, sit-ins, whatever, but the staring gets bothersome at times.

I like the open road for this reason, let her spread her wings a bit!

By owning a Viper your automatically considered a show-off. How could you not be? You own one of the most wicked looking cars on the planet!!!

Gentlemen. Your responses are entertaining and disturbing. I just wanted to celebrate the fact the we all drive the greatest sports car in America today. That said, let me set the record straight ...

1. Although I am 34, I would not consider myself an "Old Fart".
2. I just wanted to get a reaction from the kids at a local school (I would have enjoyed seeing a cool car when I was that age).
3. I did not give away any candy. (I keep it for myself  )

God Bless America ... God Bless the Dodge Viper.

MAte - good for you! When you do something with honest intentions - you shouldn't have to explain it to those who don't get it.

You provided a bit of excitement for some kids - and that's great - for some of those kids it might have made their day and they'll dream about owning a car like that when they grow up - the American Dream burning within them. One or two of them might actually do what it takes to make their day dreams come true. Never feel bad for inspiring a child or bringing them something to smile about!

I was a child once - and if you'd driven around my school just so we got a chance to see your car up close - and maybe done a decent smoke-em up in 1st/2nd - you'd would have been my hero dude! We had a guy in a hot 70 Z28 that used to do that - he'd powerslide past school while we were in class - in those days things were a lot less PC and we loved it! We were all safely away from danger - and I still remember hearing that rumble, and that 7000rpm screaming V8 - I'll never forget that guy - he was THE MAN for a lot of people at high school.

But just cruising along sedately in this PC age - it's still very cool!

I'm 42, and if I see a Viper parked anywhere - I'll still make an effort to get closer so I can have a look - they are art on wheels. When I get mine - I'll appreciate it a lot - because I'll have earned it and it represents a lot more to me than simple transport. If we can put a smile on some kids face - I'm all for it.

Austin...pretty tought words for "wanting to get a Viper" (your Goal), the post was made in fun, unfortunately your skin is alittle thin, maybe too thin. Do you want to get a viper to "show off", or do you want a viper so maybe people will think different of you once you actually own one? Or do you really want one of these cars because deep down you can't live without a viper? The "Awe" is just a by product of owning one of these fantastic cars, "Shock" is actually knowing what this car is capable of. Good luck in obtaining your goal. Make it a point to get to Forth Worth later this year to see your GOAL in action.

HEMIDAYTNA, well, deep down I feel that I cant live without one. My passion for the Viper is sickening. Everyone thinks Im crazy for the way I feel about the Viper. It is the ultimate car to me. Yes, there are nice cars out there but, the Viper does something for me. Believe me, the attention will be nice but, knowing what the car can do will be the best. I LOVE the looks yes, but I dont just want one to "show off". I dont want a Viper for the wrong reasons, I want a Viper because its my dream car. Like I said earlier in the thread, Im sorry for the way for jumping down his throat. What I said was wrong and we are all here for the same reason, WE LOVE VIPERS!! :D Concluding that, I hope to reach my goal of owning one of these beautiful and powerful machines soon.

I think it is cool you gave the kids a thrill. When I was in school it would have made my day to see a viper come through the parking lot. Great story, and the folks with negative comments should lighten up a bit.

I had this kid (about 10) with his dad, follow into a gas station one night. This kid was blow away, standing next to a REAL Viper. He went on for 20 minute about his 1:18 scale models he has and asking me the differences in the ACR and GT2 among other things about the car. He kept saying how this was his dream car.
I just let him go on because, I was that kid once, looking at my Dads Corvette. Knowing that I was going to have to work hard and make enough money to own a Corvette.

Well I skipped over the Vette and went straight to a
viper.
These ARE beautiful works of art and I'm sure they inspire all who see them.

Hence the post: SHOCK & AWE !!!
I'd love to hear others storys of peoples first reaction to seeing their Vipers. Which is what I think this post started out to be.

My first sighting was back in 93, I was 8. My dad was on this back country road back in MD. We going along driving pretty fast having safe fun. Then we get stuck behind this red car. All I could see over the dash was the wide fenders and bright, shiny, red paint. My dad told me it was a Ddoge Viper, and I remembered seeing some pictures of the car in his Autoweek magazines. The rest of the time behind the car, I was just pushing myself foward with my elbows against the seat to see above the dash and admire the view.

I'm not sure if I enjoy the looks as much as my kids do, they love to cruise in the Viper and check out others reations. Last wednesday we were parked for the weekly cruise. The usual looks and drools, This boy about 7 runs up to the car and just stares, his parents are behind him and I here him telling them about this car. They take a picture of this beaming kid next to the Viper. As I walk up he ask's if this is your car? I said yes and sugested that he might like a picture of him in the car. "Can I" he asks,so here this kid sits in his dream car all smiles. His parent say the are out of state and just visiting, and I have just made his vacation! I open the door and he say's "Is there any way I could have a ride" How could I say no! so my wife asures his parents that he will be ok. He is already over on the passenger side and I help him in and buckle up. We slowly cruise down main street and turn around and cruise by his parents so they can film him. He tells me of all his Viper modles and things about my car. After we get back he says thanks. Got an e-mail from his parents telling me how it made there vaction and he can't stop taking about how he got to ride in a VIPER! It doen't get much better than that!

I use to give kids a ride in my Viper until it was brought to my attention that i am opening myself up too possible lawsuits. :( Sad but true. People see dollar signs when they see a Viper. All the boy/girl has to say is that man touched me. I don't mean to cast a dark cloud but something to consider.

kobe: Don't feel bad or mean or anything. In my many business courses in college ( I am finally almost done - grad in december ) we learned the hows and whys of lawsuits. It is amazing why people sue others. It is even mroe amazing that they almost always win. Fact is as soon as the kid is in the car, he is "your" responsibility. Now granted the parents gave permission, and they carry some burden, but like you said. "he touched me" is all it takes and there goes your house, Viper, ( maybe not but you get the idea ). Its stupid lawsuits like if someone breaks into your house, slips on a toy, they could sue you...( and even possibly win..I am not kidding ). You gotta be safe. If I ever gave someone a ride in my car, I would literally have them sign a waiver of some sort. I am looking foward to the smiles and admiration of a Viper. I would love to give rides to everyone I meet. But unfortunately, in this day and age, its not "that easy" to safely make everyone happy.

Hey, I am only 23 right now. I hate saying no to giving people rides in my 4x4, or dunebuggy. But fact is, I can't afford to be sued. Not if I want to afford a Viper anytime soon...Francisco

Call me old fashion but I am not going to sit in my room and cry the sky is falling! Life is a judgement call and if you stay in your room then you never have a chance to enjoy life! They could just as eazyly say he grabbed my butt, and not even be in your car! NO HARD FEELING!

Classic. I am, however, very much aware of the lawsuit issue. It is a shame that this is even a possibility. It is certainly a judgement call, but it is truely a shame that we would even have to think of someone filing a lawsuit based on a false accusation. When I was in high school I would have paid as much money as possible (which was not much) to get close to a Lambo or Ferrari. That is why I like giving people the opportunity to see the car up close. This is a great car and I want the world to experience it.
