OK - so when you have someone make a U-turn to get a look at your Viper, follow you, take pictures, and stop to talk to you - you think the person is nuts. SO it happened to me - except I was the one who was nuts as I saw a MB McLaren SLR. Had to follow it to get a good look and try to figure out who it belonged to. All I can say is WOW. Beautiful, awesome, looks like it's speeding standing still - WOW!. Actually knew the person who owned it and was able to get to sit in it. Felt like I was sitting in a space ship. Refined - TIGHT! It may actually be easier to get in a Viper than to get into the SLR though. Took me three times to close the gull wing door as I was afraid to slam it shut.

Here was my favorite pic - which I had a better camera instead of my Treo 650:

I know the lottery is only for people with bad math skills - but I think I'm gonna have to buy a ticket so I could spend the $500K to get me one of those!

When I saw McLaren in the post I thought F1 and got excited. Then I saw the SLR. :( Was it hard to tell it from the usual SL's? I have never been impressed by any aspect of that car..

$500,000 for that??? dude, i'd spend that & buy me a couple nice vipers & send them off to all of the vendors here & pack them full of all the goodies & buy a nice garage with lifts & windows & ramps that would enable me to drive the cars down into a 2-story family room & have them on display behind the glass, in my family room, next to my life-size tyranosaurus rex skeleton & sabor tooth tiger...

I saw one at a friends dealership. They look nice but I don't I don't think $500k nice. I'd buy a twin turbo SRT10 and another home first.

And I bet you'd get more looks at a light in the SRT10. IMO

Better get one while you can, there are major problems between Mercedes and McLaren right now. Why do they paint them all SILVER? What a boring color for such a nice car.

Except for the short wheelbase 7 series, look what the rest of the 'country club' drives.....

McLaren and Mercedes have already announced the discontinuation of their association. The cars in the line will be the last ones built. Maybe collectable from that standpoint, plus the high initial cost will artificially inflate its "appeal".

I saw one of these at a hospital fundraiser in Barrington. Very nice. You can make your case for multiple Vipers, house in the country, etc. instead, but the technology and build quality of this and many other vehicles blow ours away. This one sold for $475K. They were expecting $750K as the only other one sold at the time went for $1M.

The type of person who would seriously think about owning a car like this would probably shrug off the notion of buying a Viper. They are a different breed of people, who appreciate cars for different reasons we do. Probably sit around waxing it all day and never drive it.

Even in red, park one beside an SL65 AMG....

Tell the uninformed that one costs $300K more than the other and run about the same speeds. Who could tell?
Now put the top down on the SL. Many would pick it as the 'better' car.

If they made a $250K Viper and it looked and performed the same....

Not a fan. Rather have a S7, F50, or Lambo! Congrats to you though at getting to see it up close. BTW, how did your viper do against it on the highway? I assume you beat it based on the picture???

$500,000 worth of car there? Cant find it. Give me a saleen S7 instead any day of the week. Or, $500,000 divided by $83,000 is 6 darn nice vipers.

Two better alternatives in my opinion.

Hey now I happen to like silver! I am sure the car looks awesome in person! I love the side pipes!

i really dont see what makes it that unique. granted the doors open scissor style and the nose is longer than normal mercedes sports cars, it stil has that boring mercedes look to it, i'd rather have an s7 twin turbo or a countach for that money, thats my idea of a real rediculously fast sports car. aslo the car is designed so anyone can play Kimi Raikkonen or Michael shumacher "cough f-430 cough" , i want a car that'll kick my ass as i go to the grocery store. its a nice car but not my style.

It's really MB's pathetic attempt at a halo car. Anyone can slap $500k on a car and call it colllectable... as they de-halo the Viper and insist it must have a sustainable business case.

Pinnochio is atrocious. Reminds me of the lies coming out of DC nowadays.

I like the picture in the rear vision mirror.
It is blurred and conceals the cars true ugliness.
Shame is wasn’t night time….
That car needs two bags if you know what I mean.

The only uglier car I have seen in that price range is the Porsche Carrera GT. Saw one today on the way to Sonoma. Must have the same design philosophy as MB as it just looked like a streched Boxster with a ricer wing... :(
