I was driving the interstate 5 North, through Irvine and Tustin, when I saw this 2001 ACR, Sapphire/Stripes. We were just trudging through the normal morning stop and go, about 10 mph, and often stopped.

I'm in my pick-up, but since his car is so simular to mine, (same year and colors), I thought I'd give him the two-fingered snake salute. Its neat to see another Viper just like yours, even when you aren't driving yours, you get to see what it looks like from the third person. I didn't recognize the guy from local VCA meets.

He is in the next lane, but either doesn't see me, or doesn't want any interaction with other drivers. He slows way down, to put distance between us, it looked like. So I grab some paper real quick, and write "VCA #13122" on it, and stick it in the window trim of my truck, where he could see it. Thats a little out of character for me, because I'm normally pretty reserved, but I figured what the h*ll, I'll try to make contact. Traffic by this time was moving steadily. He could just read my sign, and know it was another Viper owner, I thought. Maybe he was a strictly Viper Alley type?

Evidently this action of putting up a note was TOTALLY misinterpreted, because this guy abruptly slows down to an absolute crawl, holding traffic up behind him, and pulls in the lane behind me several cars back, so that we wouldn't come along side each other again. Well, at least thats the way it looked to me. Its almost like I was pointing a gun at him, he went out of his way to avoid coming close again. He stayed back there for a long time, before I lost him in traffic.

What'd I do? Maybe he thought I was just some ****. (Which would've been an accurate observation, but how did he know?) :D

I'm a little reserved when driving my snake. People flick me off for entirely no reason in Columbus. Jealous Tools. The guy probably had no clue what VCA stood for.

Vic,

Know what you mean. I thoroughly enjoy observing my car on the road from others perspective. I guess I'm a little car vain because when I drive past a reflective glass building I just have to look at it when I'm driving! There is a commercial like that out right now where a guy in an Accord (I think) keeps circling the building real slow so he can see the reflection.

Oh, the VCA. He probably thought you were part of one of the 'other' VCA's out there.

In which case I would have seemed a little shy staying the heck away from you too! ;)

Well I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that gets flipped off when they are driving. This world is filled with JEALOUS butt-wipes!!! But don't worry what comes around goes around.

THere are only about 5000 VCA members and 13 or 14k Vipers. He probably had no clue about your cryptic sign or the two finger salute and figured you for a dam nut. :)

C'mon out of the closet, I've seen you lurking and posting over there!

Maybe he was one of the "darned" and when he saw your sign he feared he might get some windbreaker rubbed off on him if he responded positively. If he'd only known it was you...

Or maybe if you'd had your lovely daughter with you... :)

This is funny, as I too feel like when I see another Viper on the road, that the driver is like an ol buddy, so of course we need to interact...Oddly enough this happens most when I am in my snake, and I do LOVE to see the snakes on the road, like you said, its a great prospective...

I have yet to see my same car on the road, and I am sure if I did I would follow him/her and want to chat...This certainly could be intrusive on the poor person, but I can't help it!!!

Lately I have been getting far more attention on the road, thumbs ups, people pulling beside me wanting to hear me rev the 488 cubz, people at work noticing the pic in my cube and wanting a ride, not sure whats goin on...

The only cold shoulder I have ever received was in my work parking lot recently, as I uncovered the snake, from some dweed parked across from me in a convertible blue C5 vette...He just got in his car and took off without so much as a glance my way..And I was gonna compliment his car (to be polite)! This of course I dismissed as completely unimportant, I am sure he felt inferior being so near the snake!!! :2tu:

Bigz, whatchuh doin over here? I thought this place was too dead for cool types to read at all? What kind of fiendish morbid curiosity draws you to the morgue?

Sure, I post over there, occasionally. Most people know my alter ego "VIC-ious", its not much of a disguise, really. I think I'm up to 20 posts or so, not enough for the heads and cam!! I tried to post ***** myself out for the giveaway qual, but I couldn't bring myself to do it! :)

So Cal VCA is the largest in the country, with almost 400 members, I think, and it rocks. We drag race, road race, go on lovely trips to wineries, mountains, deserts, coastal towns, long winding drives by the sea shore, etc. Some of us are older, some very young. Calfornia has cool older people, so don't look down on anyone, even if they are wearing a windbreaker. Our best turnout was 65 Vipers, which is almost impossible to keep together, stretching out over many lanes, like a Viper parade.

So to me, the VCA has the best of everything "Viper". This .org website is the first one I found about Vipers, and will always be my favorite.

Hey! I know why that guy shyed away from me, it must have been my squeaky cleaness!

Not!

Tomer,

Most people I pass in Vettes make an effort to look away...

We're stealin' their thunder!

I get the same thing when I'm in my Viper. Oh well.

I second (or third) that.

But I also like they Vette guys that fly past you after you already layed a smack down on them and you decide to hit the brakes. Then they blow by you like they won.
