I was driving the interstate 5 North, through Irvine and Tustin, when I saw this 2001 ACR, Sapphire/Stripes. We were just trudging through the normal morning stop and go, about 10 mph, and often stopped.
I'm in my pick-up, but since his car is so simular to mine, (same year and colors), I thought I'd give him the two-fingered snake salute. Its neat to see another Viper just like yours, even when you aren't driving yours, you get to see what it looks like from the third person. I didn't recognize the guy from local VCA meets.
He is in the next lane, but either doesn't see me, or doesn't want any interaction with other drivers. He slows way down, to put distance between us, it looked like. So I grab some paper real quick, and write "VCA #13122" on it, and stick it in the window trim of my truck, where he could see it. Thats a little out of character for me, because I'm normally pretty reserved, but I figured what the h*ll, I'll try to make contact. Traffic by this time was moving steadily. He could just read my sign, and know it was another Viper owner, I thought. Maybe he was a strictly Viper Alley type?
Evidently this action of putting up a note was TOTALLY misinterpreted, because this guy abruptly slows down to an absolute crawl, holding traffic up behind him, and pulls in the lane behind me several cars back, so that we wouldn't come along side each other again. Well, at least thats the way it looked to me. Its almost like I was pointing a gun at him, he went out of his way to avoid coming close again. He stayed back there for a long time, before I lost him in traffic.
What'd I do? Maybe he thought I was just some ****. (Which would've been an accurate observation, but how did he know?)
