Side sill paint \"bubbling\"

I know this question has been asked many times, but I can't remember the answer. I have the dreaded "bubbling" of the paint on my passenger-side sill. There are two quarter-sized bubbles. When I showed this to the body shop folks at Claude Short Dodge, they told me it would cost $350 to strip, remove the corrosion, and repaint the sill. They also said that this was not covered on any warranty since the corrosion does not go all the way through the sill. Note that my basic 3-year warranty has expired and I have no extended warranty, but I understand there is a 7-year corrosion warranty that should still apply to me.

Anyway, what is my next step? If I'm SOL, I'll just pay for the sill to be repainted, but if there's any chance of getting DC to cover me, I'd like to know what I need to do.

I appreciate any advice you can give!

Re: Side sill paint \"bubbling\"

I had the same bubbles, and the dealers weren't interested until the paint actually popped off. Then the rust-through protection warranty kicked in, since it was happening from the inside to outside. (Don't ask why bubbles aren't enough..) Also, I had gone from dealer to dealer asking (as my travels took me) and after about the 5th one, with the paint flaked off and white powder showing, the service manager looked, punched a few computer keys, and said they'd replace them.

Mine were much worse, bubbles at the screws and bubbles under the paint, under the rock protection... so I got new sills. Price is $1700 a piece, unpainted, plus add the three rock protection stickers each side. So $300 or so for a like-new side sill is very good - while they're off, look at how to reattach them and electrically isolate them. If the are not in electrical contact with the body, they can't corrode.
