Squeeze the ends towards each other with some channel locks. One will kind of snap into the other one with a little upward persuasion and lock the clamp into the open position.

whats wrong with some 'hood jams when im workin on the car???

get ready for the next step here, found some channel locks and did the deed, but was hesitant in my approach on the smoothies, i tried (again) to just beast em off with my berserker rage... anyway i thought i would need something to persuade them off like a flathead screwdriver to get inbetween the airbox outlet and the smooth tube, but i was worried i might strip the smooth tube. once again, i need a tip...

VERY important note... "I **** at working on cars."

Choice #1 - Find someone that doesn't.

Choice #2 - Patience, and something like some WD40, with the red straw attached that you can cram in tight places. And since you claim mechanical ignorance, some steps:

Step #1. You are working with breakable plastic parts.
Step #2. Review step #1.
Step #3. Insert WD40 or equiv straw into various places and squirt. We're talking about where the hose is on the air box.
Step #4. Review step #1 again.
Step #5. Massage hose, pull gently, try gentle screwdriver persuasions, etc. Keep step #1 at the forefront of your activities. Patience as needed.
Step #6. Repeat all as needed!

You should be pulling the unmounted - 3 screws, 2 forward, 1 rearward - air box away from the engine. Don't try to pull the hoses off with the air box still anchored down. Slide the box off the hoses, not the hoses off the box.

Lastly, the single screw on the rear of the box - right by the engine belt - use a little blue loctite and an allen wrench to tighten GENTLY. I had the screw back out once and go through the fan belt. NOT the way to leave a bar after 4 margaritas.
