Like a good boy I performed a search on this issue but found no answers. My question is simple. Does the "Snake Oyl Rear Sub Assembly" (a.k.a. rear muffler delete) result in higher horsepower assuming no other modifications?

Im just playing logical here, if you remove restriction one would think you'd increase power, how much? ive no idea

Depends on what other mods you have done - should increase peak hp slightly but torque won't benefit much. Also expect a beehive to grow under your seat - the buzz can get REALLY annoying. I cured mine with low-back corkscrew inserts and soundproofing from a stereo install. Sound is pretty awesome, though the screaming from your neighbors after you turn the car off might detract a bit

Basically, you would probably be making the change for the sound, not any truly noticeable performance gains.

Yes its probably worth a few HP.But why waste that much money? Some on the board have taken their cars to a muffler shop.Had them cut out the rear mufflers and add straight pieces.Cost around $40.00.If you need to spend a little more or want better sound and less drone have the shop fabricate a cross over tube or H pipe to slip on instead of the rear mufflers.Personaly I started with a Corsa cat back for the sound(wonderful).Couldn't resist headers and got coated CDI.Have straight stainless from the CDI 3" to the Corsa 3" no cats.Apex syms keep the check engine light off.Sound is awesone and LOUD.Side sills cool to warm.Engine runs cooler.Cockpit cooler.Added thermotec shielding to various in the engine compartment because the stock heat shields wouldn't fit.If you're going to do it and just might go further get the Corsa from Jon B to start and do it right. I have the snakeoly and love it.
it was cheap and easy that way you can keep your stock setup
if you wish. If i recall around $450

It sounds great...IMHO
and the chrome tips are nice.

I think the hp and torque gains have to be similar to a corsa cat back.
because there is no restriction.. just straight pipe to the tips.
Have not yet dynoed the car so can give numbers yet.
but there is a thread from MES i think that has many dyno numbers
and snakeoly was in there.
good luck

I believe the VA/MD did some dyno runs on Snake Oyl installs? Andy Levitt.... are you out there?

It was from a few years ago and I beleive documented a legitimate increase in HP.

I agree with Bruce. Mine was $30 for the same work. I believe the end result is the same without spending considerably more money. If you only want a better exhaust note, this is the way to go. Much improved over stock.

Of course, since doing that the first year, I have spent the larger dollars for Belanger Headers, 3"pipe, and Snake Box.

Actually, I think the general public tends to accept evil loud exotic cars. They are so rare and outrageous - well, they SHOULD be loud.

...a LOUD Camaro is ANOTHER story however!
