Wow. That's thorough. Here in CT I'm lucky if I can find an emissions testers that knows what an OBDII port is.

It's happening all over the US. I have to pull my full Bellanger set up off and go back to all factory just to remove the headaches and pass to enjoy the car for my whopping 500 miles each year. It is just taking the fun out of it all. The EPA and Emission testing is the biggest joke on the American public. Where are our Republicans to boycott this crap? Better come out in November and beat down this monster that has been created. And I am not a political guy. Just calling it as I see it now. Can this country even afford to pay for this nonsense?

Wow, that's really stupid, and part of why I would never consider living in California.

Let's just hope it gets sorted before it spreads like wildfire to all the states.

Agreed. I know in some states (Like Ohio :D) as long as you have collector plates you don't have to get an emissions test done. I may be looking into this for my '08 if I decide to carry out my plans for the car, :)

...or just live in a county that doesn't have emissions testing ;)

Newport,

I heard a few years ago that was going to be coming. Sorry to hear they are actually enforcing that now!

Well that is sure not Ontario! We are always one step behind California. Ontario is the California of Canada. :(

From K&N website:

14. Are K&N performance air intake systems emissions legal in the US?

All intake systems are legal in most states because most states do not have regulations governing them. So this question really has to do with California and other states that have emission control standards. In order for an intake system to be legal in these states, it must receive an Exemption in the form of an EO number from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). To further complicate matters CARB exemption is issued only for specific part numbers used on specific vehicles. That means a part number can be CARB exempt for some vehicle applications and not others. There is no such thing as CARB Pending. A particular part number on a particular vehicle is either exempt or not. The best way for you to determine the status of the part number you are interested in for your vehicle is to look up the intake systems available for your vehicle in our vehicle/part search engine and check for CARB exemption. If you are unsure whether CARB exemption is required for a part to be legal in your state, check with your local or state motor vehicle or emissions agency.

Not mine or Viper but, this is what the decal looks like....Shops face a $10,000 fine for passing cars without it

Don't understand how an air filter would affect EPA regulations. Is it a problem that the K&N is less restrictive than the OEM paper filter and lets more LA smog into the engine and may pass it through the exhaust, lol?

Counterfeit tags and stickers is illegal isn't it? I wouldn't want to suggest anything illegal, particularly an act that enables something as evil and damaging to humanity as cars. Does anybody have any high res images of all these required tags and stickers ("Ihre Papiere", if you will)? I'd like to see what they look like so I can study them to distinguish between counterfeit tags and stickers and the real ones and then I can turn in all the bad people and save the world.

There are a few things that I hate to admit, one of them happens to be the simple fact that emissions controls actually work. California is the pain in the butt state that started the emissions control program to begin with. If it wasn't for California we probably wouldn't have seen smog devices for many years. When we moved to Los Angeles in 1976 I remember not being able to see a mountain that was one mile away from our house on a hot summer day. Those days are over, mostly due to emissions testing out here (some of the reduction may also be attributed to the fact that this state has regulated all industry away as well). So as much as I hate the testing program, the hassle and cash they are sucking out of my pocket, the program actually works.......................
