I was told by a major car collector/dealer that less than 20% of the cars that are auctioned at B/J go to a new owner. The original owner winds up bidding on his car to by it back to keep from losing so much and just pays the fee to keep his car.

Does anyone know if this is true? He said B/J is a big scam!!! Now they have brought back the reserve for some extremely collectable cars.

This auction deal is very interesting....my understanding is the seller pays an 8% commission on the hammer price and the buyer pays a 10% commission on the hammer price. So a $100,000.00 dollar hammer price means BJ makes $18,000.00......that can't be right, can it?

That's better than selling legalized *******!!

Yes, That is correct......!!!! And thats just the beginning. They charge something like $3xx.xx just to get a bidders pass. AND doc fees, just like a dealer. AND.......... they charge admission to the tune of $15 a head for spectators.

No! The fee me was $400.00 to bid, if your approved. You get 2 passes all week for that price.
The fee changes at each auction. The cars at Scottsdale are incredable!!

And the bidder passes come with 10 free drinks a day per pass, so it's not like your just p!ssing your money away (or maybe it is).

Don't know if the percentage is correct, but a good friend shipped 3 cars to BJ a few years ago and bought 2 of them back ... Plus $hipping them back to VA.

I was there watching his cars go through. One (perfect lime green AAR) got VERY little play ... but the '56 Chevy just before his car got a large amount of play.

My original plan was to go down to Barrett Jackson for a car, and then I fell for a local one instead. I still hope to get down there one day, even if I don't end up buying anything.
