Wow, did Chris Marshall, Mary Marshall ( and their two sons ), and the entire KC Viper Club put on a show! From Nascar Racing Limos, to incorporating the lunch hour into a ride along for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the event had it all. Many owners took advantage of the cut rate ,negotiated by the KC Club, to run the Racing Experience Nascar machines around the Kansas Speedway. Paul Greaser , Viper Challenge Series and SCCA racer, did 30 laps with the mercury hovering around 98 degress, and you couldn't take the smile off his face. Probably 20-30 folks took advantage of either the ride along program, or the full blown driving track experience.
Friday night was split between folks that wanted to go Drag Racing, and the wimps who wanted to stay in the air conditioned Suite at the Ballpark to watch the Kansas City T-Bones play. Yep, I was one of the wusses who thoroughly enjoyed the game, and the KC gang had two Suites reserved for the Viper faithful. Those that went to Heartland Park, Topeka , had an equally fantastic time at one of the best strips in the Nation. Unfortunately , hot temperatures, a stiff headwind, and high humidity kept the times down.
Saturday started with everyone gathering at breakfast prior to wandering over to the various venues set up by the strong Midwestern Club, and the autocrosses turned out to be a big hit. Though slightly delayed, everyone got a chance to run SRT-10s and SRT4s on two seperate courses. Everyone who ran the Gen III Snakes was totally blown away by the brakes. Most of us found ourselves stopping so quickly we had to actually get back in the gas in some cases to get up to the corners. Special thanks go to Mark Jorgensen , our Viper Service Coordinator, and Steve Glaab ( Ne. Region SCCA member ) , who came down and helped all day with the Autocrosses when KC Region found out there was going to be a shortage of workers.
The Saturday night party and dinner was an absolute blast with a fantastic Band, great Auction items, and phenomenal comraderie. This will be a Rendezvous that others will aspire to equal, and kudos go to one of the greatests Viper Clubs in the US -----all praise the mighty KC Region !!!
Sincerely,
