Hey guys...I am in no way an expert on audio so here it goes:

My 99RT had a bad sub woofer which crackled all the time. Per the recommendation of many here, I replaced it with a JL Audio 6w0. The speaker works fine at very low volume but then the sound cuts out as you turn it up. If I change the balance to the front speakers only (taking the sub out of the equation), no cut outs at any volume. So, it is definitely the sub.

The stock speaker is 6 ohm and the JL is 4 ohm. I'm thinking it has to do with the ohm difference. Is there an adjustment on the stock amp I can make or must I "upgrade" something else? I was hoping I didn't have to change anything else out. I just want it to work. Thanks guys.

Your amp is "Clipping" a two Ohm diference can result in sereous overdraw of of the stock amp. Clipping is simply the Amps internal circuit protection think of it as a breaker per say. There is no way to get rid of it in a single speaker set up. If you adjust the gains on the amp. wich i believe are inside the stock amp. you can minimize the problem but you will also minimize the sound.

I did the simple solution and gutted the entire stock set up and replaced it with a reasonable aftermarket set up. The difference was immediate.

Hope this helps or not. ???

Cheers

Thanks...I'll try the gain adjustment to see what happens. I really didn't want to perform a complete audio overhaul if I didn't have to.
