Speaking of door poppers, SRT trunk issues?

I seem to recall that when I first got my SRT over a year ago and you hit the trunk release on the fob, it would pop the deck lid open an inch or so. I have used the trunk a LOT of times (putting the top up and down, etc.) and now it doesn't pop at all. It releases fine, but doesn't open in the slightest. The result is that unless I am pulling up on the trunk lid as I hit the release on the fob, it will NOT open. You can hear it release when you hit the fob, but it stays so tightly shut that it just relocks itself immediately. Curious what other owners have experienced on this fairly trivial issue.

Chris,
I have only had my 2003 SRT for a couple of weeks (from Bill P.) but ever since I've had it, the trunk unlocks with the key fob but does not pop open. I DO NOT have to pull up on the trunk while pressing on the release on the fob however. I can lift the trunk lid anytime after the fob unlocks it. I just assumed that this was normal operation.

Mine continues to operate like yours did originally Chris. I have never pressed on the fob while pulling up on the truck, so safe to say it is working as expected.

Chris mine was doing the same thing. The Viper tech screwed the black stop adjusters out a little so it would unlock and stay unlocked when the fob is pushed.

It's definitely a lack of "popper power."
Mine started doing the exact same thing about 3 months after I got the car. All this time, I thought it was the extra weight of the MGW licence plate holder (I bought the triple chrome which weighs a good bit). To this date, I didn't give it much of a thought, but now I definitely know that the "popper" doesn't have enough strength to "pop."

Same issue w/ relock 1-2 times. DC safety feature so your trunk never accidentally opens. BTW, keep spare in place so trunk will not decapitate you. Holy sheet...no spare!!

Will try raising stops. Hopefully FAUX roll POSs will keep my head on long enough for it to get crushed. Do you hear me DC?

It's just the trunk seal. As it gets older, the seal will gradually lose some of its CLD (Compression factor) That's why some cars have doors that close hard when new, and 'break in' over time. Mine seems fine after a year, so yours may just need to have the trunk striker adjusted a bit.

I can open the trunk after unlocking with the fob but it never pops open. In fact....it takes almost both hands to open the decklid! I just consider it my exercise for the day.

drdave The SRT`s don`t have a spare only RT10`s and GTS....GtsViper the RT10`s don`t have trunk poppers they are a pain in the **** to open. SRT owners just extend the black stop adjusters that will put enough pressure on the deck lid to pop it open and keep it unlocked.

Well, as suggested here I went ahead and adjusted the two outboard strikers (never even noticed them before). Fixed! I am only sorry that in my limited ignorance I didn't pick up on it previously. I also noticed that it would NEVER have popped open an inch, even when new (wishful memory). Instead it pops up just enough to avoid relatching - which was my main goal. I let my car warm up close to operating temperature when I first go out, and like to be able to get into the trunk sometimes while it runs (cleaning, packing, whatever). Couldn't pop the trunk and open it at the same time from the driver's seat.

Thanks for the many replies and the easy fix!

Chris
