A little off point but an amusing Viper story. I hope that you do not mind. A few years back about fifteen members of our local VCA Chapter went on a morning outing. One of the members brought his turbo Porsche instead of his Viper. We were coming over the rise where 595 meets up with I 75 on our way to Alligator Alley. We were in fairly close formation ( light to no traffic) doing 90 MPH with the Porsche at the rear in what I think was a 55 zone at the time. As we came over the rise, we noticed a radar trap. It was too late to really do anything but the group did slow down assuming all of the pursuit cruisers would corral us off the road as a group. That did not happen. One cruiseer came out and stopped the Porsche. Later, when the member with the Porsche caught up to us after we stopped, we asked him what happened. He said that while speaking to the Florida Highway Patrol Officer he said: "Why did you stop me? What about all those Vipers?" The FHP officer said: " They're Vipers - American Muscle. You're driving a Porsche". And he smiled broadly. We all laughed and told him that we hoped he had learned his lesson about bringing a Porsche to a Viper event. Every time I think of this occurrence it brings on a smile.

Love this!!!:headbang:

Why would they laugh?

Don't know about other locations, but if you go to court dressed properly, speak properly, show respect and tell your story you won't get laughed at.

In MD you are alowed to present your case if you plead not guilty - which is what I was pleading.

I created some diagrams with PowerPoint and brought copies for the judge. I showed how the traffic was lined up, where the police were and where I was. This illustrated that they had no line of sight to me as it was obstructed by other traffic.

Again, I was innocent and ********** that I got the ticket and was there to argue my point. I wasn't about to go in up prepared, that would be a total waste of my time.

It worked.

What diagrams? Did it help? Did they politely sit there and listen to you or did they laugh before you could finish your argument?

I agree, this makes total sense but I'm biased. :2tu:

I think there should be another class on the drivers license for performance driving. If you have a car that is certified to safely travel at speeds over 140 and you have passed performance driving schools every year than you should be able to drive at speeds over the speed limit up to say 100-110 when conditions permit, not in school zone on Monday morning but maybe on open freeways. That would be nice :headbang:

yehp for awhile there I was getting stopped practically EVERY time I went out in my Viper, wasn't speeding, pulled me over for all kinds of stupid things...where's the front plate(In doesn't require one and I was driving in OH) daaah!, you were going 5mph over, don't think your tail light is working, just a random insurance card/license check

I don't suppose any of those officers just wanted to get a good look at the blonde driver by chance did they??;) If so they would need to come up with "some" excuse to pull you over!

Just sayin!!:D:D

I got caught in a speed trap in October. Written a ticket for 70 in a 65. I'd been pulled over 3 times prior and given warning for various offenses, but that was just insulting.

Yesterday I got pulled over for 90 in a 55. It was 80˚ and sunny and the road was open and brand new; 2 lanes each way with a grass median and 2 shoulders. No traffic and visibility for miles, so I sped up a little. 90 isn't bad considering the car will do 180 and it was in a safe(ish) environment. I crested a hill and see lights. The officer was cool and wrote the ticket for just speeding and let me off on the expired insurance card and no front plate. When he asked about ride quality I tried explaining it but was failing and said "it'd be easier to head up the road and back if you want to ride shotgun" but he declined. He said I seemed like a cool guy and asked for the citation back and scratched out the 90 and put 74 so I'm eligible for defensive driving. I joked and said it'd be funny to snap a photo to send home to my wife via my phone to get the initial blast out of the way while I'm absent and he told me to go ahead. Hence...

And how did that work for you letting her know in advance?? Was she ready with a bat in hand to beat you when you got home or had she actually cooled off??;):D

Would have been funnier if you posed next to the viper and cruiser on the ground in a fetal position with the trooper, baton in hand about to clobber you. THAT would have been hilarious to send back to the wife. :lmao:

MoparBoy: I fibbed a little to the nice officer. I have an iPhone and you can't send traditional SMS photo messages; you have to send them via email, which my wife wouldn't have gotten immediately. So, while it WOULD have been nice, it didn't work out as planned. When I got home, it went like this:

*enter Jason, stage left, smiling mischeiviously, head hung in mock shame*

Her: "What'd you do?"
Me: "Check out this picture I have."
Her: "***? When did you take that?"
Me: "40 minutes ago."
Her: "He give you a ticket?"
Me: "Yeah, but only for speeding...no the other 2 offenses...AND he reduced it! 74 in a 55! Jesus loves you!"
Her: "How much will it cost?"
Me: "Dunno...only time and a lawyer shall tell."
Her: "When you find out let me know. I'm going to spend the same amount on clothes."
Me: "You may have won the battle, wife, but the war wages on..."

Leslie, incidentally SHE is blonde but that didn't help me. I tried crying and wetting myself but it didn't work.

Warfang, I like the way you think. I'll test the waters next time and if a photo opportunity like that presents itself, I'm on it. I smell Pulitzer...

A Moderator might want to block out the plate number of the police cruiser. I would hate to see the officer get in trouble for being kind and doing you a favor. You never know who is viewing a public forum.

NICE

Was that wilco or city, had it been wilco you may have been in the fetal with a nice beating :) We are fortunate that the Travis county on the toll road was sleeping and missed the 130 fly by that we did.

On a side note the rest of Jasons day was good. My brother in law came in to town from Florida for the weekend. His roomate who had never been to Texas got picked up at the airport by two vipers and a Zo6. We had to put his luggage in the z06, glad they are good for something.

Fixed it.

However, if a supervising officer wanted to bust his subordinate's balls, I'm sure he can look up how many tickets were written to red 1993 Vipers in the last few weeks and find out who issued the ticket. If kindness is an offense worthy of reprimand, then I shall succeed from the county.

It was Leander PD. Looks like the lead foot will be going up in the attic with the Christmas decorations for a while.

Explaining Viper things to you
I wanna go back to the days when you screwed up you either got your butt kicked or you kicked theirs.

Court costs were a lot less then.

Lawsuits, unheard of.

Strong... survive. Weak... perish.

I'd take a slappin' in place of a revoked license.

Speaking of law enforcement, I was ordered to pay two $100 fines for my dogs being off the leash...in my front yard. A neighbor called animal control (I walk them from my front door to the truck to drive them to the dog park) to report me, and next thing you know I have a citation.

TO SERVE AND PROTECT!

I was wondering how many of the forum members have actually received a speeding ticket when they were not speeding?

In over 100k of Viper driving, the only speeding ticket I have received was when I was definitely not speeding. I was approaching an intersection where I was going to turn left, and my radar detector went off indicating a cop ahead. That didn't matter because I was slowed down and turning left. But just in case, I was careful to watch in case the cop turned and followed me, which he did. So I was driving along at the speed limit for about a mile, about to turn again, when the officer's lights turned on, and he pulled me over, saying I was 16 over?! Ridiculous, and waste time and money getting it converted into a glorified parking ticket.
