Spin-off Question on Mileage: Ratio of Mileage to Age

Take your SRT-10 mileage. Express it as follows (Eg: 6500 & 38)


Post your numbers here.

Hypothesis: Age is inversely related to mileage. Younger owners are more likely to have higher mileage (also more likely to drive their SRT-10 to the office on a daily basis).

Thus, my numbers are 210 & 51

1400 and 40 ... I don't think just those numbers will make any sense though. Me for example. My office is in my home thus no commute. The only place I actually drive to daily is the Gym and that is only 10 minutes away. Some people have good weather and clear roads all year long while I don't. I have several vehicles and only use the Viper occasionaly ... usually when I feel like being an a$$hole.

I've got 706 and 44.

Perhaps we should calculate annual cost of ownership divided by annual mileage and figure out $$ per mile. Alice, you'd be up around $7-8 per mile!!

I do that every year for my boat. Last year worked out to $1018.00 for every hour of use!!! I try not to think about it.

I see your point, but it you are more likely to have an office in your home at the midpoint of your career.

In either case, you do not break from the mold...older age, less mileage.

If you enjoy the boat at $1k per hour, then it is money well spent.

I am thinking that younger drivers do not concern themselves with issues such as depreciation and losses inherent in higher priced mods. Although obviously, as you can see from some middle aged owners, that is not always true.

In general, I suspect that the younger buyers see the car as something to use up and also have more available time. Again...that's in general.

Bet it is multi-factorial. It is age, climate and distance to work.

Mine does not work out because 7 miles (to the hospitals/office) is ~35 minutes in traffic...on a good day.

As far as your theory I would say yes. By a slight margin.

Unless it's expressed in miles per month, I can't see how this information is of any use. A person may have had his car for a month and have 5000 miles on it.

Miles per month can be deceiving also. Climate and season of the year affect this number.

I agree that older folks will probably drive a Viper less but I don’t think it has to do with greater awareness of depreciation and such. In fact, older folks are typically more affluent and would therefore be less concerned about such things. I think it has to do with the fact that older folks are more mature and have been around the block a few times. As a result, it takes more to amuse them than simply a cool car. Younger folks are more easily amused. Look at it this way - a 3 year old can find hours of playtime with a large cardboard box.

Alice, absolutely a non valid calulation. Age will not equal mileage unless number of vehicles is considered. Eliminate non diven (museum quality) cars and then list driven vehicles with your formula. I.E.

2003 SRT 10
1997 GTS
2002 M5

This example takes into considertion a multple Viper owner who has a daily driver. THEN calculate age versus combined mileage, must be single driver who drives all cars, significant or insignificant others or other family drivers do not apply. They have to have additional cars. Your original formula fails beacuse very few Viper owners drive only the Viper, they not only own multiple Vipers but pretty significant daily drivers.

No surprise in terms of the mileage disparity. High mileage is from SoCal and low mileage is from Wisconsin.
