Starting Big Brake Install, I have questions

I am opening this thread because I have a question now and will have more later. On the SRT calipers, there are 2 rods that go through and hold the brake pads. I know they have a metal piece that attaches up top to hold tension, but are these rods suppose to snap into place? For instance, if I was to put the rod in by itself should it snap or does it rely on tension? Just want to make sure they aren't going to back out while driving obviously.

Tap them in gently with a lightweight hammer and small punch to seat the coller on the "head" of the pin. You'll know you have it by a change in the sound when tapping, then verified by a close inspection.
Do top pin, then seat the anti-rattle clip, and secure lowe pin...thenreinspect.

I had everything pinned and clipped, just needed to tap the 2 pins in each. Everything is seated well now. On to the next step, jack stands :).

By the way, anyone know the torque spec for the banjo bolts?

I'm assuming that you are installing Gen III Brembo 03-06 era front calipers on the front and using your old Brembo fronts that you are moving to the rear;

If so, banjo bolt torque is 31 N.m...or 23 ft.lbs on both types of banjo bolts... per the 2003 and 2002 Viper Service Manuals respectively.

I am installing SRT calipers all around with 14 inch SRT front rotors and 13 inch GTS (front rotors) in the rear. Taking lots of photos.

Sweet, email them to me if you don't post them as I was hoping to do this soon and heard it was a PITA.

Ok heres the update. So far everything is good to go. Fronts are fully mounted torqued and padded. Only issues I had with the fronts are the funny positions to torque the bolts, the stainless lines were a pain to get attached to the vehicle, and I didn't close the bleeder valves on the front calipers so they bled a little :).

As far as the rears I can't complete them because one of the bracket bolts is too short. I have one side cut already and the caliper is just sitting there.

Just have to finish the other rear, secure the brake lines and abs lines, bleed then enjoy. Posting pictures in a moment.

Ok here are the photos. The photo with the wheel on is the "test fit" required to make sure everything is working well. I have not secured the lines yet.

Another question popped up, is that spacer supposed to be smaller then the rotor face?
Also what is the brake torque for the lugnuts if anyone knows off the top of their head. If not I'll look it up. Enjoy.

Ok I have finished the rear as far as I can. As you know one bolt was too short. The emergency brake kit has the same bolts in the rear so I used one on the caliper so I can get everything prepared to bleed out tonight. I do not like the way the stainless lines react to the zip ties they are in and don't like the routing. Here are the photos of my fronts and rears. Let me know what you think.

Looks fine from here. One thing that happended to me is that the ebrake cable moved enough inside the rim, that it knocked off one of the wheel weights when I first drove it after the install. Make sure all is clear in that area.

You don't think those zip ties in the front are too weak for the line? I can see them slide on the A arm when I turn the wheels. I don't like that aspect of the kit.

Fun stuff aint it!! Hey, those brake lines sure look familiar !!! LOL :) Enjoy doing and "exercising" all those mods. Really looking forward to the pics of the color coordinated blower too. Glad things are coming along. Those calipers are really sick with those black rims! Man that yellow powdercoat turned out nice.

R&J distributing did the powder coating. They disassemble, powder coat, reassemble with new seals. They rebuild the caliper after they coat it. So you essentially have brand new calipers. Look great and hoping they perform great. Jeff from Daves Big Brakes got ahold of me and my bolt will be in the mail Monday so I can finish. I have a buddy coming over either tonight or tomorrow to bleed the brakes. Any words of wisdom of bleeding? Never done it before but I know its straight forward.

Definitely add's weight. You are adding 1 inch larger rotor in the front (heavier if you use oem), thicker rotor in the rear, all 4 calipers are bigger and heavier then on a gen 2 stock. I don't think it's enough to be concerned about but it is heavier.

LPDesRoche showed me how to bleed the braking system today so it's bled and ready to rock. Just need the last emergency brake bolt then good to go.

Ok finished the install today and everything seems well. Drove the car for about 5 miles or so and the stopping was much better, though I did not slam the brakes yet until the pads are fully bedded. Definitely required a lot less foot pressure to stop. Oh and did I mention they look ****!!

Should have finished it the week before and went to Biltmore with the rest of us! ;) Looks good! And the spacers I have are also slightly smaller in diameter then the rotor hats.

Couldn't finish it, one bolt was too short. Was waiting on the replacement bolt. Believe me, I hate sitting on projects.

I just upgraded mine too but had my mechanic do the install.

You will be so happy with the improved braking!

I am getting ready to do the same here.
As for the weight, I have made Aluminum Hats that include the required spacer thickness and will be using two piece rotors.
No more spacers! Still need to use Dave's ET Nuts.
Waiting for the rotors to show up (custom ordered)

On my GTS, I wrapped the brake lines in rubber hose that I slit lengthwise to get it on. Then secured with small screw-on radiator-type clamps. The heaviest duty zip ties lasted about a day.

Well I have had the brake kit going for a while now so heres a small update. Everything has worked out great, stops on a dime. I still have a lot of noise though, but only some days. I run ebc reds front and rear. Some days they are quiet. Some days they are very loud. Some days they have a weird pitch to them. Work fine, just annoying.
