I have Energy home theatre speakers and I love them so I like your choice of speakers. I did not hear good things about the 6 1/2 inch subs so I would stick to the 10inch. Make sure you don't take the spare tire out for anything because it's part of your protection.

I bought the pioneer 6900 and it's great, It has a usb plug so I can plug my memory stick into it and I will read all my folders of music.. great feature.

When I finally build a box for a rear sub in my GTS, you will SEE three speakers.

Two 6-1/2" subs

One 10" sub

Pay attention. This is where it gets tricky.

You will HEAR one 10" sub.

Why will you only hear one 10" sub?!?

Because the two 6-1/2" subs won't be connected to anything!

I'm not just gonna leave holes there!!!

I suspect that the 6 1/2" subs that you are speaking of are the OEM Speakers in the rear of the GTS...not subs. Yes, No? :dunno:

Then how do you explain the custom hatch install shown above? It clearly shows two rear speakers plus a sub. It looks like whoever did it knows a hell of a lot more than Car Toys. Personally, I don't think that you gain anything by adding rear speakers in a Viper so I went with the doors and a sub. If I had added rear speakers, I would have used this:

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - PXA-H701

Since the above install used alpine amps, they may well have used The Alpine digital time correction device. In the end, I didn't think it was worth the expense for my application.

Hey DrDJ,

This is good info!! :2tu: Now I can purchase two speakers less. :headbang: Hmmm where am I going to put the extra monies?? :D

Explaining Viper things to you

You are correct.

***************************

But as Snake pointed out also, if you do the 10" sub, you're done. Set. Over and out counting any more speakers for the rear.

They will otherwise compete for air volume to do their stuff.

Dual 10" subs? I mean, we've all heard of them. Great in a Suburban...

Good luck on your install. Keep us posted with updates and pics dude. Your car looks AWESOME so far!

Hey Handyman, pretty cool that you have ENERGY speakers at home. They ROCK!! :headbang: I also like your choice of head unit, Pioneer 6900.

Just to let you know that JonB (Parts Rack) unraveled the mystery about the spare tire for protection. The spare tire was not designed as an integral part of the chassis/frame/body, etc. You can read the spare tire post on my '96 Venom 550 Hennessey modification thread http://forums.viperclub.org/rt-10-g...-96-viper-gts-venom-550-making-more-mods.html

Yes. There is a cable you are supposed to connect to the parking brake so it will only play DVDs while the p-brake is engaged. Just connect that cable to any source that is always ground. Not that I would EVER do such a thing. :smirk:

The pioneer avic-d2 that I have will bypass that hack. It has a speed sensor that it checks for and will blank out the dvd if it shows anything over 2mph. If you don't connect the speed sensor it will constantly give you reminders and pop ups to hook it up. Besides that the navi won't work right either.

However, I have hacked my Panasonic DVD to play while driving and I highly recommend NOT doing it. I've caught myself not watching the road and obviously not concentrating on driving either. Needless to say I don't play any dvd's while I'm driving anymore.
