I was surprised to see that the dual painted stripes on the 2008 are not buried in under the clear coat. With the hard edge they really look like they are taped on.
I bought with out stripes and had my body shop paint them on. He called it a two stage process, when he cleared over the stripes he moved tape over about a 1/16 inch and I don't have that sharp edge, plus I saved about 2K.
Yeah I think they could have done a better job with this. I have tried applying paint protection film over the stripes and its a pain. The distinct valley helps air get under the film and lift. It would have been great had they wet sanded them down and cleared over the top.
I also bought without stripes. I had them applied at Woodhouse and all panels with stripes were re-clear coated. My stripes are now glass smooth. You can't even feel them.
