The elastic edge on My 2001 GTS Sunglass holder on the roof has lost its elasticity and just hangs down now. Anyone know of a good fix for that?

Mine does the same thing on my 2000. It was that way when I bought it years ago. Curious to see if anyone has a fix as well.

I've thought about it a long time and not sure if there's an easy fix. Short of replacing the elastic I'm not sure there's anything that can be done. One could remove the head liner and replace the elastic from behind but that would entail removing the entire net assembly too.

I wouldn’t classify this as a “pro” fix, but what I did was pinch the ends of the elastic bands to where they made about a 3/8” fold to take the sag out and hand stitch the fold with heavy duty thread. Only took a few minutes and now they function like they should. No more sunglasses on my lap when leaving a stoplight.

The Mercedes SLK230 uses the same material on the transmission tunnel for storage. It is a larger size but should be able to cut down the size you need and they are easy to find' You can also buy the yard from suppliers of cargo netting. Here is a eBay listing for $16.09 ea
