One of my goals for purchasing my Viper was to join the 200mph club at the Texas Mile. This year it will be held at the end of March and this will be my first time heading out there and was checking if any other Vipers were going.

Also, if anyone has been out there before could they suggest any tips on making it a good experience the first time out.

thanks

Is yours supercharged? I don't see it happening w/o 700+ hp.

PS just saw something on the texas mile last night on supercars exposed. The carrara gt could only hit 186mph in the mile. It's not as easy as it sounds. He did drive a 800+ hp GT that hit 204mph.

As this will be my first time running at the Mile, my goal is to run the Viper, have fun, meet people and gather intel.
I would agree that it will take a S/C or turbo setup to make the 200mph mark but other info needed would be tires? fuel? coil setup?

My goal would be to hit 200mph on my third visit to the event.

We typically have several members from Dallas that go (not all are Viper owners). You might want to wait until October for a good run, as the headwinds in March can be 25-30mph, and in October you get a nice tail wind.

As reference points:
*The 08 Viper stock hit 170ish in a standing mile.
*TT 2005 Viper hit 205 and makes 1300rwhp, but wasn't running that much for the 205 run.
*TT Viper GTS making 1300whp hit 214mph

You will find the gearing the largest issue for the cars wanting to hit the higher numbers (230mph). The 08 Viper falls on it's face in 5th gear, and as previously stated, you will need some serious power to get 200mph in a standing mile.

Add a big Nitrous kit since you only need it for the upper gears. Cheap and easy.

I may make it this fall.

Has anyone ever run a Roe car. I know they fall of on power in the upper RPM's compared to the turbos. What would a 720 rwhp roe Viper do?

Since Roe's have such a huge bottom end and massive amounts of torque they probably do a lot better than TT's. Don't the big powered TTs run low boost until 4th? I was thinking that I could probably hit the Nitrous button when in 4th. Huge torque and Nitrous in 4th should be awesome. I'm hoping to get there within a few years.

You know, it's on the "things I haven't done yet."

I'm looking for a good road racing school and a license this summer. Figure a friend and I would have a blast. 3 days? Out west?

JonB recommended PIR and that's #1 on the choices so far. I took HP Driving there and they made it great time.

I've seen open wheel cars, vettes, but no Vipers?

Any other recommendations?

I see that there is no reference to a S/C Viper. I've been extremely curious what my car would top out at with all the mods. Does anyone have any info on the performance at this event by a S/C Viper (Gen 3)?

Since I sat in your car at LoD, it is more than capable of hitting 200mph at the Texas Mile.:2tu:

It's been a while since we talked on the phone (about a year). I was wondering if you remembered me. I'm glad to see you're still on here and haven't been snake bitten!!!

Give me a shout sometime if you still have my number. I'll go through my PM's and look for yours.

Take care,
Justin

Mary, it is always in march and October. I know the supra guys were trying to have their nationals that same weekend in Houston, but that didn't work out.

They used to run in the summer, but it was a killer, so they kept just the spring and fall due to lower temps.

If you intend to run over 175, you need a 6-point cage and other safety equipment.

If you run over 150, make sure you have good tires (Y rated are my recommendation) and a good alignment (an overall good tech on the car). As mentioned, the winds, particularly in the afternoon in the spring, can get kinda goofy. You need a very stable high-speed set-up to handle the winds safely.

Very few folks run in the speed classes above 150 mph class.

The real show at the Texas Mile is the crazy motorcycle crowd. Ever seen a motorcycle run on one wheel at 175 mph for a mile? And a few will top out at over 200 mph.

LOL... last time I ran the Texas Mile, I cracked a piston when I leaned down a little too much -- just for a couple more ponies and a few more mph. :)

you do NOT need a cage unless you pass 190!! and they don't even require a 6 point cage, only 4 point :D

the last two times I have been there, I have seen many bikes in the 230-240 range

I guess they loosened up the rules a bunch since the last time I was down there. Used to be very strict on safety requirements.

Been thinking of taking the Ford GT there for a while but looks like I'll need 950 - 1000HP to be in the club. My car only has 850 right now and the good thing is it is CA smog legal. Don't want to take off the cats and use C16 so I may have to wait for the larger 4.0L Whipple (stock SC is 2.3L, Gen I Whipple on my car is 3.3L). :eater:

Not going to mess w/ the ACR which will probably never see more than 160.
