Do you think SRT Viper will do what the 2012/ZR1 did "...appease the EPA's sound limits...", by adding an 'Exhaust Flap' (over ridden by a fuse removal), as reported in the above Autoblog review?

The article states:

"The engine remains untouched, but the ZR1's standard close-ratio manual gearbox has been tweaked for improved fuel economy. In a nutshell, fifth and six gears are now taller. According to Chevrolet, it should now deliver an additional two mpg on the highway cycle to earn an EPA estimated 14 mpg city / 21 mpg highway – an obvious exercise to pacify the Feds..."

Does this mean a 2010 Viper may be faster in a standing start mile run? Funny, the Gen 4 would fall on it's face when shifted into 5th until the 2010 model (with revised 5th gear) helped fix the problem a little, yet the Vette went the other direction.

Regarding the sound, I'm not a fan of it....I actually like the sound of a Z06 better.

Cheers,
George

It has a drone above 75; but, for $99.00 you can purchase a wireless device and open and close the valves as you like.

Thanks, but sorry my question wasn't clearer. Is it thought that the new 2012/2013 SRT Viper, will also have an "exhaust flap" (to appease EPA, etc etc), which the 2012 ZR1 has, as outlined in the above autoblog review

Maybe I'm lost, but I'm not sure I understand your point..........................
by the way, both the Z-06 and the ZR-1 sound better than a Viper.

Anyway................to answer the original question. No I don't think the Viper will come with a baffle that opens up upon acceleration. Especially because the Viper is a side exhaust, now if the Gen V changes to a rear exit.......well it's anyone's guess.

I like the idling/low rpm of the Vette better but above 2500 rpm, I like the Viper's sound better - nothing like it.

I hope not; but, I guess it's ok if there is a way to open it up full time if you want to.
