The GTR has little bumps up in HP every year...and I believe everybody has seen the GTR 2020 concept car. It will finally have exotic looks to go with that mind bending acceleration. Not long from now, there are going to be a lot more shiny objects on the trail to capture our attention and money. I don't see jack squat in 2016. I think all the good stuff is gonna be around 2020....

Stupid Nissan, they should make a retro homage to the old Skyline's...
Oh yeah that's right they want to sell them.

It's not necessarily the 2020 GT-R, it's actually their "Vision GT" concept that companies have been doing for the Gran Turismo game. Mercedes, Toyota, etc. have been doing special concept cars for the game. The Toyota one looks pretty sweet, mostly based of the FT-1 concept they just put out. Not saying that it couldn't be the future of the GT-R, but it's not being explicitly stated that this concept has anything to do with the GT-R name. All the same, all of the Vision GT cars are pretty cool and a neat new way of doing concept cars in this digital age. Plus we can actually even drive them (sorta, if you count video games). Better than just seeing a pretty one at a major auto show that doesn't do much of anything but sit there.

Something about changing a car so much just rubs me the wrong way. All of the new Chargers had that same effect on me to some degree (and my dad even more so). The only thing they really shared in common with the old car was the rear quarter body line and the hood indents. The old car was never a 4 door amongst other things.

I really don't care for a company just cashing in on the name of one of their previous cars of glory. The Dart is a weird one for me since I own a 67. On the one hand it looks pretty much nothing like the old car in any way, shape, or form, but on the other hand the Dart was the economy car of its day (hard to believe with all the space it has) and the new one is following in those footsteps. They've done an awesome job with the Challenger though. I hope they don't try to screw up the grille on it like they have been their other cars.

Actually, in a certain sense the Viper is already mid-engined. The engine is almost entirely behind the front axle centerline I believe, it effectively just swaps the passenger compartment with the engine compartment of the more well known mid-engine setups. All that said, the weight balance is really one of the only reasons to go mid-engine, but isn't the Viper setup already near 50/50?

I think the Challenger Hellcat has a black grill that is sorta invisible.

I don't recall the exact percentage, but IIRC, it is really close to 50/50.

A few advantages I can see to a mid-engine design.
1). the cabin may stay cooler
2). no parasitic driveline power loss
3). no more ankle burning episodes
4). there would be room for an auto
5). there would be room for FI

I'm sure there are others someone here can list...

Good points, didn't think about the extra space it might afford in moving the engine back. Granted service might be nasty depending on how the back of the car would be done. Something like the clamshell of the Ford GT isn't as bad as some of the silly little mid-car "hoods" that older Ferraris had.

With FI, it would be possible to go with a much smaller displacement motor, with possible engine weight and compartment size savings.

A smaller displacement motor would make the exhaust note more high-pitched (make it a possible turn-off for traditionalists).
However, a turbo would lower the note considerably.

Perhaps Ferrari could help out with the mid-engine design tech?
BTW, they do have a brand new turbo powerplant making its debut in the California T.;)

I don't know anyone on this forum well enough to know whether they are joking or serious....and there seems to a lot of seriousness around here.

Staggering performance and looks that are timeless....at around $200k. They only make around 300 so people are willing to pay above MSRP to ****** one up. Now just imagine...the one or two people here that could afford to get one would be Gods. We could actually get this Gen V forum closer to monotheism....you see, it's the current polytheism that's causing all these damn problems in this forum.

BAD MOVE....If Dodge did this it would alienate the very people that supported the car in the 1st place. Now I'm all for branching out in effort to appeal to a new base, but Dodge should never forget it's core base of supporters...

The Dodge Viper was originally a Blue Collar Super Car....The best keep secret that had the power and performance to compete with exotics double it's cost. It was the type of car that a regular guy that made some smart financial choices and who worked a few extra hours: could save up and afford. Now with this new 140k price tag...That regular guy is now priced outta existence.... :(

I would love to see Dodge build an SRT-8 Viper and without cheapening the car or taking short cuts...they were able to have it priced around 80k....But realistically, the technology that would be used to build the car would probably have it priced around 95k; which is still competitively priced...But for my own selfish reasons I'd rather have it at 80k....Wouldn't You?.. ;)

After reading a comparo yesterday between the SRT and the Stingray on Edmunds.com, I am beginning to doubt it work without a completely new and modern chassis.:sadpace:
