I have to say this again --- Guys, The Germans have taken over this company. They absolutely do not care nor do they want our input on this company. When the two companies merged -- and this is VERY IMPORTANT -- there were 12 Germans and 12 Americans sitting on the executive board. It is now 23 GERMANS and ONE AMERICAN executive. They have NO INTEREST about our opinions on how to keep the Viper on top. Mercedes is RUNNING THE SHOW. Look what they did to the sleek '99 concept Charger -- designed by the same guy who designed the Viper GTS. To put the name " Charger " on that bland Magnum Sedan should scream to all of you -- they DON'T CARE. This is THEIR comapny now.
They believe that harsh, right angle cars are the " wave " of the future. I ask you -- how many cars can you name me from decades past that have squared off lines and are still raved about today? Nearly ALL classic designs have flowing, curved lines. ( hence the comparison with women )
To let the Corvette catch or come close to the Viper is PROOF enough that they do not understand that the Viper is a special car to us. The Germans will not listen. And until we get Americans back on the board -- I can't express this enough -- our input is MEANINGLESS. They don't listen and they do not care -- to them, we Americans need to be TOLD what we want.
If you think we are ever going to see a Hemi V-10 -- not a chance. The Coupe that they have brought out will be the final Viper design -- and then discontinued -- I hope I'm wrong -- but I don't think so until an AMERICAN who KNOWS the heritage of Dodge ( i.e Lutz and his kind )is once again at the helm of this company.
So dream as much as you want -- but Ford and Chevy DO LISTEN to their customers. DC does not and won't. Thanks for letting me vent and better -- prove me wrong DC........

Your 2 cents is worth more than that. DC will make cars for both brands with the same chasis and engine, but lower the specs on the chryslers by a hair intentionally so merceds comes out on top. We need to take Chrysler back.

Umm... Yeah, right.

I feel offended lol. But anyway. When they said the SRT/10 wouldn't come to europe (For those that don't know, germany IS in europe) I felt the same way about americans... But since I think about what I say, I felt the same about the guys that made that decision.

You might know General Motors owns Opel. A manufacturer that is responsible for thousands of jobs in germany.
We have a pretty serious unemployement problem at the moment, even though Opel has some new designs, and the cars are still selling, GM wants to close a lot of factorys or move them to poland.
This is about humans, not a stupid sportscar, they loose their job, and probably won't find another one with 45-55 years because they are too old for the majority of employers and never done anything else then working on cars.
But you know, the AMERICANS don't care.

If it was for me and the majority of germans that know the Viper you'd get a 650 Hp, 800 Nm, 8.5 Liter Viper that has the name of Carroll Shelby on it again.

Agreed. Zee Germans are at the top of the list along with Americans and Italians when it comes to being passionate about high performance cars.

And most companies are ruthless when it comes to profits, be it sacrificing employees or innovative designs for the sake of a dollar/euro/pound/yen. Nothing new to see there.

I'm reserving judgment until the GTS comes out. However, I admit there doesn't seem to be much encouragment from DC.

BTW DC, screw up the Viper and I will NEVER buy a Mercedes or any other DC product for the rest of my life.

And one more thing DC, I'm in the market for a new truck. Do you want the sale?

agreed. dodge has been ruined by mercedes. the party is over for the viper. the car will eventualy be discontinued as a result of dismall sales. which of course is a result of dismal styling and no perfromance upgrades to keep pace with the competition. the only car chevy has to offer is the Z06, which is better than the new viper coupe. if chevy starts making the camaro again then they can compete with ford. so ford is where its at right now. the new ford GT rules and with the GR-1 and the new supercharged 5.4 litre shelby cobra mustang coming out in 2007 ford clearly owns the sports and muscle car world with styling and performance. i want my cars to be made in america by a company owned and operated in america. if i want a german car i will buy a mercedes or a porsche or a bmw......... not a dodge.

It's NOT only about money. It's their pride. Ve can't have the Wipers kick our German a$$es. How do you explain the Crossfire SRT6 and the SLK32 AMG... same platform, same engine, but the Crossfire comes short by 20HP?

I dunno... call me a Geman-business-hater (except fellow viperclub members) , but I've worked with many Germans companies, and there's this snotty "we're superior" attitude about them (not all, but the definitely a majority within their business community) and everything made in Germany. I had a client that would "suggest" all of his American employees buy German cars... and oddly enough... they all did. The parking lot looks like a German dealership.. when they're not in the shop.

They speak of American products, especially cars, with disdain. Would not shut up about how barbaric the Viper is and that most rednecks that buy them can't control the power. But the new McLaren Mercedes... a work of art... form meets function, blah blah blah.

That's pretty much the same. And as stupid. I don't categorize cars after the country they're from. If I like a car I don't care where it's from. And there are assholes in every country. Ever worked with the french?

The german ViperClub as well as a lot of other fans and enthuasiats are working ******* getting that number of assholes smaller... So don't throw more gas into the fire.

Mercedes is german, yes. And I never felt positive about what they do with Dodge and especially the Viper. But saying thatr's a german attitude is rather rude. Take VW for instance. The new Bugatti is coming, and will be a pinnacle of automotive technology.
Audi bought Lamborghini... And I haven't seen an Audi that could keep up with a sport packaged Gallardo or even Murcielago yet.

Just to set the record straight. I'm not flaming on Germans in particular -- it's my ancestry. The point I'm trying to make is -- You cannot expect business men from another culture that feels is superior to ours to take input from us and apply it. Again, I ask anyone here -- name me a car from the past that has harsh lines ( like the current trend at Chrysler )and is marveled at today......
Our only hope is someone with Bill Gates money will come in and buy Chrysler from Daimler Benz. Then put an American enthusiast at the helm. It better happen soon if you want to see that V-10 Hemi motor that WILL keep the Viper on top.

The '66-67 Charger is certainly one for the Ugly Book. Its only saving grace was that you could get it with a Street Hemi.

The difference between Americans and Germans: We (Americans) "THINK" we're all that... Germans "KNOW" they're all that, AND that the Ugly Americans are stupid. Although this is not indicative of ALL Germans, most Asians DO drive poorly, and most Brits DO have bad teeth, and most French DOO-DOO smell bad.

Remember, these (Germans) were people that believed that a short, brown-eyed, dark-haired man can claim the superiority of tall people with blond-hair and blue-eyes... and were willing to shake and bake millions of people to advance that point.

The problem we have is in the legislative. More then 60% of the kinds of laws have to go through the "Bundesrat", which has a majority of the oppositional party. So, even if the government has ideas, they get blocked all the time. That's why nothing happens... That's why people don't go to vote.
And that's why a '"-Democratic-" Socialist' state, which Germany is, doesn't exist the way it should be.

Furthermore I think another problem is, that everyone wants our money... Countrys go and bomb other countrys and want germany to help with money... And we get flamed if we don't. And it isn't Chirac.
We pay a BIG part of the money for the EU, and get nothing back. Even if we need it right now.
In the situation now I think it is time to think about our problems now a little more, instead of shoving money into everyone's butt. And yeah, that's the real governments fault.

I don't see it... that DC screws the American Chrysler label so as to not make their German Mercedes label look bad is the government's fault, and that everyone wants Germany's money? Hint... we in the US, don't NEED your money... last I checked we send BILLIONS overseas, not to mention the billions we spent protecting W. Germany's @$$ from the USSR... how quickly people forget? That's what's wrong with Europeons, they love to use binoculars to see the big picture when what they need are bifocals to see what's smack in front of them. Wrong vision, wrong argument. There's no geoplolitics here... this is a car enthusiasts' issue, and no matter how it turns out... it's still just a car.

The latest issue of Automobile Magazine says that DCX has dropped the partnership between Mercedes and the British firm McLaren. No more SLR McLaren's anymore!!

The article says that the alliance was "overshadowed by tension and friction from the beginning, as it became obvious that the Germans and Brits had fundamentally different ideas about finance and marketing." It goes on to say that the cars "were simply too costly to be turned into a solid business case" (sound familiar?).

I don't want to jump on the bandwagon of overly simplistic national stereotypes, but it seems fair to point out that DCX has now lost some of their super Mercedes models. MAYBE we can get them to look back across the ocean to the Viper once again -- just dreaming!
