Good day ladies and gentlemen. I need help, not only because im stuck on the far side of the pond, I wish I wasn't, but I am in need of a gearbox for my project viper.

Up until this point I have been planning on using one of quaife's sequential items but the short ratios and "chocolate cogs" are putting me off combined with the £8000 price tag to go with it.

So the decision was made to go with the tremec T56 used in the viper as original fitment as its more than capable of taking the power I am producing from my engine(my car is much lighter than the factory cars so dont need huge power figures), the ratios give good speeds in all gears for the differential im using and its, as far as I was aware until today, a faily common and simple unit.

The simplest way to go about this, I thought, was to make the short journey to my nearest dodge dealer and enquire with them and there all knowing parts computer about a gearbox, quite blisfully ignorant to the fact that there are several varients of the 6 speed manual fitted to the viper throughout the generations.

After consulting the gentleman in the parts department at my local dealer i was provided with the following part numbers for 4 of the 9 varients he came up with which are applied to vipers from 1996 to the present.

05103 065AC
05103 065AA
05018 770AA
05093 033AA

Unfortunatly the part computer for the dealer didn't contain any specifics for the gearboxes and the dealer in question had only ever seen one viper in its history and didn't keep any literature for them at hand. Serves me right for living in a backwater county!

I then thought I would consult the all knowing internet. The transmission technologies company website holds no reference to these part numbers and lists just one T56 varient with 550 foot pound capabilites and the earlier manufacturers of the gearbox borg warner was even less successful for information. I was however able to find a brief history of the viper detailing changes to the gearbox throughout the years where it listed the earliest vipers having a forced 1st to 4th shift at light throttle not included on later revisions and an electronic gate to prevent accidental engagement of reverse used on later revisions of the viper.

And this is where you find me now, I would like to know, if anyone can tell me, exactly what gearbox differences there are between the number of the gearboxes used in the vipers are and give me the part numbers for the gearboxes if you can.

Any help I receive in this subject is very much appreciated

Regards

Rob
