Tires for a 99 RT Viper july 2015

What are considered the best all round rear tires that fits a stock 1999 viper rim?
Street traction only. No track or cornering.

If you're running stock rims as you say, your choices are going to be cut down some. I've been running the Michelin PS2 tires on my Gen II and been happy the balance of traction and longevity. There are other brands available with varying traction and price. Call Jon B and see what he has on sale.

It depends on the conditions you drive in, mileage per year, track/no track etc. I would go with PS2's or Toyo R888's. Another option is the new BFG Rival S, but they are on back order.

I will look for the Michelin PS2. Was not sure if they still made them.
Unless someone swears by another tire. What build date should I look for as the oldest acceptable tire.
Khumos do not fir right. Always bothered me.

I am putting down 674 tq at the wheels.


I had 2 horrible Jon B experiances over the last 10 years. None of it being Gruff, but he was, just ill informed, and insistant, self important and wrong.
Done with that!

Last build date on PS2 was sometime last year. Sorry, dont recall exact date. I have been through 2 sets of Michelin and have been pleased with them. Toyos are good but kick up alot more rocks. Toyos are softer tire with better dry grip, Michelin is better all around tire. The Michelin should also last longer.

I've been running BFG T/As for a while now. For a basic street
tire its hard to be the price and the look, but when push comes to
shove they are not hard performance tires. I feel comfortable
driving them cross country, but there are better (read: more
expensive and higher quality) tires out there. If the PS2s were
better looking and I was more comfortable driving them through
the rain they would be my first choice...

What exactly looks wrong about them? It's one of the reasons I am getting rid of the Khumos (sp). Too small and do not fit the rim correctly. I thought I could live with it but cannot. It was like Chinese water torture evey time I looked at the car.

What's up King?! PS2s are the way to go. As John mentioned they are slightly harder so they last longer but still have gobs of grip for those special moments.
