Tires heating up?

I know it depends on the driving conditions, pavement temperature etc.....but can anyone tell me how fast rubber ( tires ) heat up during normal driving conditions?

20 minuets or so. I've ran the Smart Tire system for many years, and had a real chance to observe this. Tires will heat up about 10-20 degrees. Speed heats them up faster than anything.

Why? Just curious.

The reason why I am asking is because I have heard many times that you should not increase driving intensity until your Viper tires have heated up. But no one has ever mentioned the time duration. It's also very important since I intend to track it sometime soon.

Also...........do some tires heat up faster then others or are they pretty much all the same?

Tires will heat up based on various parameters ( pavement type , factory wear rating , road conditions , speed, etc. ) , but just like a race tire it will take a bit of time to come into it's own. There is no blanket time frame to adhere to, as street tires can vary trememdously. If a tire is designed to last a long time, it will have a high treadwear rating, and be of a harder compound - consequently it will take longer to heat up. If your tracking on a road course, it takes about 2-3 minutes (usually one lap) to heat the stock run-flats. When cold it gets a bit squirrely motoring out of corners. But once hot, the SRT on runflats seems difficult to power induce oversteer (nice). Everything seems predictable except trailbraking, be cautious.

I am running 31f / 32r psi cold and ~ 35.5f / 37r hot. Usually street compound tires require less "heating up" than race compound tires.
