To follow up, I found one for sale on Craig's List that says the lights on the side of the play field are black lights and it uses glow in the dark balls and is to be played inthe dark.

VIPER PINBALL MACHINE - glow in the dark ball- night lights - REDUCED

Note "Glo-Balla" logo on coin door. Special version?

I'd check on any warranty if you buy. I bought a used arcade game last year for a great deal and it worked for about 2 weeks before the monitor (or video board?) went out. Gonna cost as much to repair as I paid for the game

This machine is new enough that it is solid state so no old school electonics to break. Plus parts are very available and although the things are very sturdy they are easy to fix (I have a 1995 machine from another company and it has been no problem other than two broken flippers which cost $8 each and take 10 minutes to install). Pins of this era are VERY much like Vipers: old school but modern enough to not be trouble.

I have this machine in our family/Viper room and have had it about 6 years. It is fairly low production and a semi collectble. It is well made and I have only had to have work done on it once or twice.

The glow balls are no big deal and I use chrome ones (kept the glow also)

neat machine but like everything it takes up room, is heavy and you will not play it a lot unless you are really into pinball.

So true regarding a pin, but when you think about it, true about so many things as life gets better. For the price of one superbowl nosebleed ticket you can have an ultra cool machine in your house that takes you back to "the day" a few times a year when you play it. The alternative is to be a loser sitting in front of your trailer drinking PBR. Then everything is fun 'cause life is simple.
