Folks,

I'd really like to hear from the people who have or had a Paxton system. I am getting ready to install headers / high flow cats / corsa track. I was also going to install VEC 3 but learned from the installer yesterday that I will need to cover the VEC when I wash the car or get caught in the rain. I'd didn't realize that and really do not care for the idea of it. So I am scatching the VEC. We got talking about doing a Paxton system instead, so my question is to those that have or had it is it really worth it? I do not plan to track my car, but know I will run across that occassional C6 Z06 and don't want to get smoked by one.:eater:

i would also probably skip the headers and just elimanate the cats and do a cat back system of you choice(remove crossover). headers don't yield much horsepower and by not buying them you and cats your nearly half way to the price of a Paxton kit

Get everything you mentioned. Including the VEC, and add the paxton! You'll be very happy!

In regards to the VEC, do you really need to cover it in the rain? First I've heard of that.

I don't know if its really required to cover the VEC up or not in the rain. That's what the installer tells me. Seems like it would be a real pain to me. I should probably call Roe and ask the source.

Just talked to Sean Roe and he said the only time I would need to cover the VEC is when pressuring washing the engine compartment. He also gave me some interesting advice. He recommended using a PCM flash which Roe Racing offers (not on their website yet) instead of the VEC if I do not install a Paxton. It is much cheaper than VEC. This would also eliminate the need for a dyna tune with the VEC further saving me some coin.

Isn't that interesting? Why would he NOT want to sell such a "good" product as the Vec

Sean said if I don't go with a paxton and only do bolt on mod's that their new custom PCM flash would give me the same air / fuel curves as a tune with their VEC. For a lot less money.

if ya never wanna do anymore mods again it might be ok to go with the PCM, but if you ever decide to do a single mod, you'll be pissed ya dont have the VEC

We've been in big time rain with the VEC. Never had a problem. I do have some very simple, cost free protection on it. Namely: a piece of 33+ Scotch tape across the card opening and some electrical duct seal and 33+ over it around the master/slave connectors. Works perfectly and cost basically nothing.

As for washing: I don't think you would pressure wash your stock PCM if it sat where the VEC does with it's harness coming out the back. Common sense says you shouldn't do that.

...until you do additional mods and have to send Roe (or anyone else that does reflashes) the PCM for a reflash each time. :dig: $$$

Currently running a Paxton at stock 8psi of boost, Belanger headers, DC Performance blower flash, water/**** injection, tune through VEC3 by Joe Donovan, etc with 702 rwhp/667 rwtq on my SRT Ram.

You only need to cover the VEC3 if you're washing or pressure washing the engine compartment. Roe does offer a 10 foot extension cord on to the VEC so you cant mount it inside the vehicle if you choose. I did upgrade the pistons to Diamond pistons. With a tune from one of the well known tuners we have you'll be in good hands. If you go anywhere else for the tune...well beware. Its all in the tune!!
