Thinking about selling my black 2000 gts with 16500 miles on it, and putting the money toward the 2013 mustang GT500. What kind of trade in do you guys think I can get? Or should I just keep her and wait a couple of years for prices to come down. 662 hp is awfull tempting!!!

Sure it's a neat car... but it's no Viper GTS. I wouldn't even consider trading.

If I had to have a GT500, I would pick up a 2010 or 2011, then add a pulley, tune, and exhaust.

My thoughts.....the Viper will hold it's value today and should go up :dunno: The Mustang will lose value as soon as you drive it off the lot, it will blend in with all the other Mustangs on the road, the Viper will always stand out. 662 HP is one thing, but it has to transfer to the road to be of much use? There is no mistaking a Gen II for any other car on the road, except maybe a Gen V later this fall :D. If you have to have one I would figure out a way to keep both otherwise keep the GTS :2tu:

The 2013 GT500 is going to be my next toy! My wife hates Vipers, at least the ones I own and now that I have 2 daughters, the Mustang makes more sense since it has a back seat. At this point, I do not see me owning a Viper again. My wife is more important and I have to keep her happy and she likes Mustangs.

I cannot believe this. I can understand the transition to a ZR1, 458 Italia, Ford GT, Lamborghini, Exige 260S, 911, M/B SLS AMG, R8, GTR, or something of the like. But to off a Viper for a Mustang, you've got to be kidding. Not trying to be a basher, and wouldn't be opposed to adding one to the stable, but drop kicking the Viper for a car just cuz the HP rating is crazy. I didn't get a Viper for the HP rating, I got it cuz it's totally 'sick'. ....The idea of trading it for a Mustang makes me sick. :crazy2:

My Ford parts sales guy came around a few weeks back, and asked me if I'd be interested in trading in my 2011 Corvette (daily driver) for one of the new Mustangs. .....I actually started laughing full blast right in his face. (I apologized to him for that, he's really a great guy, -a die hard Mustang guy though, so I kinda felt bad) -but get real, I mean come on dude, I know Corvettes are dime a dozen and you see 30 or more a day, but Mustangs are just far worse in my opinion. - Also, he knew better than to mention my Viper for a trade.

She does not like Vipers because of all the girls that flash you at stop lights when you are driving it....

Exactly!!!!! I get people taking cell phone pics of my car all the time. Rustangs are a dime a dozen and though may have a lot of HP, No "Dammit, that's beautiful" appeal! I've got a beautiful 77 Vette and don't even drive it anymore since I got the GTS.

At the end of 1966 Ford had sold around 1.6 MILLION Mustangs! God only knows what total production numbers are as of 2010. Dodge made less than 30,000 total production from the start! I don't want a "me too" car. "hey...you have a Mustang?" "me too"! My 2 cents.

I'll bet your Vette is way cool, but like you know, everybody's seen a bunch of those already. The Viper is just special -no matter what year. -a Viper is.......WOW a VIPER!!!!!!!

Every time I see a Rustang (which is OFTEN), it is usually driven by a female.

Nothing wrong with that all, but just an observation. Check it out for yourself when you see all of them on the road.

Makes you go "hmm". :smirk:

The 2013 GT500 will be a mid 11 second car based on the weight (3850lbs) and traction (P285/35R). The GTS is a high 11 second car stock. Put some roller rockers, exhaust and tune and you'll be dead even with that rustang. Just based on performance alone, I don't know why someone would downgrade to such a porky boat. I could see it being a fun daily driver, but not a weekend toy for someone who has already been bitten by the real snake. I drove a 2011 GT500 and it felt like a boat, I mean a big heavy boat. I know there will be handling improvements to the new one, but there is only so much you can do with a solid axle. Even a GEN1 will handle better than any GT500. I really don't know how Ford is going to put down 662HP to the ground on P285 street tires.

If you really want to have a cheap good time, then ******** a 150 shot and watch the rustang disappear for good.

I love the fact that our GTS'S are constantly compared to the new cars. Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes, etc. My car is 11 years old and still holds it's own with the "NEW" cars. I think the old gts gets to stay!!!!

I third that :2tu:

I get asked all the time about comparisons with my car to new ones. I remind people that they are comparing a brand new car to a 10 year old car. Like for a perfect example, this new GT500. I have been TOLD that this new car will destroy my car. Like the guy was trying to a fend me. I laughed and was just like that's cool, but i would still give it a run for its money. Try at least. So then i say after that NEW GT500 " Destroys me " , lets go find a stock 1992 Mustang GT, 10 years older then my car, and we will see how bad i smash the **** out of that car. He then says well that's not a far race. I then laugh, sure its not. ****** bag. He doesn't even see my point. lol.

Anyway, sorry for off topic kinda. If you have to sell the Viper for family reasons ( 2 girls and a wife ) I Totally get that. And buying a 4 seater does make sense, and a new GT500 would be a cool car. BUT, you can NOT compare the two cars in any way together. One is a work of art and a timeless piece of history, the other is just another model. I'll let you decide which car belongs to which comment.
Just my 2 cents

last year I was in the market for a new "toy" when I purchased my GTS.

factors: it wouldnt be a daily driver, I want power, I want to turn heads, I'd prefer it not to depreciate 10% a year.

solution: Viper.. duhh... NSX (all high mileage, no power)... Lotus Esprit TT (I dont want to pay Lotus repairs, from the front look dated)
yes I considered new vettes, camaros but thought... man these cars are dime a dozen.

Big Numbers are nice but the GTS is a truly unique and exciting driving experience. There is little difference driving that GT500 and the base 6cyl car 95% of the time.

The question you should realy ask yourself first is.....If i had a 2013 Mustand Shelby for 2-3 years and someone wanted to trade me for a Gen 2 GTS, would I. Firstly, the guy/gal that is interested in the trade would be all over doing the trade. Secondly, you would be doing either an even trade ( which your not doing now with the dealer, your adding money), or, you would be adding money to this deal as well to make it happen since the mustang in 3 years would probably be worth 35-40,000 and the GTS no matter what year would still be worth in the mid to high 40,000's. Thats in 3 years...in 4-6 years you would be adding alot of money to get your GTS back. Not to mention your novelty and feel while you drive that car would leave you feeling empty. No gauking, pictures or wow factor anymore.

As someone stated, go to the mustang forum and presume you wanted to do a trade for your GTS and see how many would jump on that deal over their mustangs.

662 Hp on the street, is not a bragging right. Driving a Viper is!! Trade your car in and get a good used 2008 ACR instead of the extra money your giving for the mustang and you'll get bang for your buck, IMO

Guess we'll see you on the Mustang forum then. No need to post on a board dedicated to a car you will never own again. bye

Go ahead, trade it! On what Ford lot will your GTS be located? Please let me know in advance, and don't tell anyone else. Thanks!
