To ViperDays or not to ViperDays?

Well I have seen the posts on Insurance coverage for ViperDays, and my insurance agent at Farmers feels that any incident on the track would not be covered. Well life is a risk, if you go to ViperDays drive carefully. I have been on the Thunderhill track a couple of times on my Kawasaki ZX11, so I'll be there taking my chances with the rest of you that are going.

What good's the car if you are not going to get it out and have some fun with it...

Just my humble opinon, I believe its safer driving on the track than driving around town to the local car show. Sure you may get a few rock chips but you'll learn more about how to control the power you have at your disposal. This may save your Viper in the long run.

Viperdays preaches safety and learning while staying within your limits. Its worth the risk to me.

At-a-boy, There will be plenty of instructors to help you out if you wish.(required with green group, Fist time)
There will also be vendors to show you the latest in performance upgrades. And a great race Saturday and Sunday.
Comp coups, Trick Vipers, and a few Panoz GTS cars.

I'm with Bad Byte - I think we are far safer at the track.
AND I have seen more than one person stuff their car in the wall at Laguna Seca on a warm up lap, or try to make time on the last turn before the straightaway at Button Willow in spite of being told the dangers.

Few of us are professional drivers - most of us are rank amatuers (did I spell that right) with a dream and a gleam in our eye. Almost all of us have the common sense/self control to follow the instructions given by the organizers and stay within our driving abilities, which result in safe events.

I have concerns about the "other guys" equipment, so am selective about who I run close to - If I'm not familiar with the car/driver they get a wave by....... and actually I prefer finding an empty part of the track and test and develop my skills.

This activity, for me, is American as Apple Pie, and I give thanks every day that I get to do these open track events.

I don't think the insurance will dry up - there will always be someone willing to cover the risk, for a price.

Despite my insurance woes, I love Viper Days and other track events. No one ever says you have to drive any faster than you want. Check your ego at the door and go with the intent to learn and pick up speed gradually. The big hit usually comes due to driver error not mechanical failure. Mine did.

Seat time is key and if it feels like it's coming at you too fast, then it is. Slow down and build back up again gradually. Trust me, you can miss a lot of laps while repairing your snake and/or seeking insurance money to do it !

I'm 57 (for what ever that has to do with it!) and I went to Buttonwillow Viper Days and had a blast. If I had done it earlier I would have known how to avoid or recover from my $12,000 rain accident three months ago. Just do it!
