As some of you may know, my 97 GTS' radiator fan died on me Friday. After a couple great tips from some of you, I was able to replace the crappy 97 fan with the improved 99 fan. The only reason it took an hour was because I stood hunched over the radiator for 20 minutes trying to figure out if it was really as easy as it looked. Well, it was, and if I had one other person with me to undo/redo the screws on the other side, it would have taken 15-20 minutes.

Six months ago, I was afraid to change my own oil... Today, I replaced a radiator fan. Next week? Fabricate my own throttle bodies and install TT's. One can dream right? :D

How many of you guys started from JiffyLube before your Viper and are now your own ViperTech?

Good job. I didn't know anything, still don't know much, but restoring my Camaro is really helping me out, and learning along the way lots of things. Hopefully once I get my Viper this will prove to be valuable experience.

What part makes you no longer a poser? Did I miss the part where you spun off the track at 140mph?

I spun off the autocross at 50 or so... does that count? All those poor baby cones... :D

The topic was made in jest. Still on my first year with my snake. Give me a few more, and maybe I'll get to play in your playground. :2tu:

Don't worry about that TVC guy....having two Vipers for a VERY long time has made him cranky! Nothing a pair of 19 year old blondes won't fix though...right Chuck!?!?! :)

Warfang...it is a slippery slope...good job! I am NO mechanic by ANY stretch of the imagination....but I have had so many parts off my King Poser-mobile it isn't even funny. NOT huge mods or maintneance...but enough to let me feel like I am doing something on my own and having fun! :)

Who Chuck? Not worried at all... haven't you seen my raves? "I wanna be like Chuck when I grow up." :D Now pardon me while I wipe my nose.

One of the reasons I bought the Viper was that it is supposed to be one of the easiest cars to work on. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty. :2tu:

does ~110 count? Oh...I did spin once at the end of my brake zone coming off of ~140. I was way under 100 at that point though and I didn't go off track ;)

The next scary time will be when you start cutting holes in your car (roll bar, harnesses, brake cooling ducts,...).

That's one of the joys of owning a Viper. There's so few places you can take your car for service you almost have to learn how to DIY. If it wasn't for this board and the great people I'd still be clueless.

Yes...so far working on the car really isn't that hard...but then again, I haven't had to rebuild the motor yet...

I guess I might qualify as the psudo-tech, having rebuild the car from the wreck and then to my surprise rebuilding the wounded motor.

As far as the 140 spin out,,,,is that in KMH or MPH?
So far, I have only mustard(sp) up having the front tires break lose and the car not turning as headed towards a ditch.
(It's an Oldsmar, FL. thing)

As I get older I seem to enjoy wrenching less and less probably due to the back pain and the fact that the cars keep getting more and more technical. I still do my own oil changes and brakes and whatever my old vette needs but enjoy driving more than working on them anymore. I guess do it out of necessity since the dealers are so bad and always screw thing up more than I do.

There's things that I used to do that I wouldn't do anymore. I've rebuilt engines, rebuilt trannys, installed power adders, etc. I just can't even imagine doing stuff like that again. Now that I can afford to get someone else to do it, I will. However, I still do all routine maintenance items, removed my cats myself, etc.
