Too good to be true?

Last time my car was in at A.R.T., they said head gaskets should be on my short list (1993 RT w/ 70k miles). The guys said sometimes Roe stocks an aftermarket set for the heads so I don't have to get the $1k Mopar gasket pack that has the head gaskets and then some. Sean said they didn't have any at this time, so I started digging around a few sites and found these:

Fel-Pro 96-02 Viper Head Gaskets [HS9034PT] - $135.99 : Performance Parts - Ford Mustang - Cobra - Dodge Viper - Chevy Corvette - C6 - LS1

Anyone have any experience with these? Are they junk, or have I stumbled upon buried treasure? As they say, "if it's too good to be true..." but I thought I'd throw that out there and see if I could save myself $900. Thanks!

Well, hopefully they'll stumble across this sometime Monday. If not I'll PM them.

Until then, has anyone used these or even heard of the brand? Are there any other alternatives out there? Like with anything I'll do the Mopar thing if mine blow up and there is nothing else, but I'm trying to be proactive in finding a cost-effective but quality replacement part before mine go. Thanks!

I saw the year, but was inquiring about the BRAND. If the BRAND checked out I was going to contact the manufacturer about the year. Thanks for the input and clever emoticons though!

I've heard of someone occasionally making aftermarket sets (it's been a year since someone told me about them), but if you don't grab them when their being made it may be a year or two before they pop up again. I'll ask about them again Monday. I just wanted to get a feel from the board before having to dig too deep (for information AND money). Thanks!

That part number for the Fel-Pro gasket looks to be the V10 Dodge 3500 head gasket set. I'm ALMOST positive the trucks are forward-cooling and have different jacket holes, so they would not work. :(

If you're going to have the head gaskets done, I suggest saving your pennies until the last possible moment. Then, do everything you can afford to while the heads are off. For example, the CAM is a stone's throw away once the heads are off. Oil pump, water pump, are easy and not too expensive once you're in there.

There is no cheap gasket set out there as of 18 months ago. I searched high and low. There was discussion of a head gasket only aftermarket build at one point that would cost $500+ for the two gaskets. You could probably find someone to sell you the Mopar kit at a discount.

Thanks for all the input, guys. It always stings a little to see your mod budget go towards maintenance, so I'll give Greg Good and Arrow a call to see what I can start saving for. Thanks!

Gen 1s are wet sleeve motors. Like most diesel engines, you have to check and shim the sleeves to set even liner heights. Gen 2-3 are dry sleeve. Totally different coolant flows, totally different liners.
