I must be getting old. While out this afternoon in my Viper on the way back from the parts store, I cross paths with a black 99 GTS. I didn't recognize these two guys, but I am fairly new to the local club... Anyway, one minute later, they've done a Uturn and are pulling up next to me.
75mph
divided fourlane highway
almost no traffic on the northside of town
and I think to myself as I slide out of 6th and into 3rd...
where will I be in 10 seconds?
These are two vipers. Not a corvette vs viper or a porsche vs viper. In 10 seconds we would have been head to head at over 160mph.
I reluctantly slid back out of 3rd and continued to cruise home. The black assailant pulled off, disappointed.
Am I getting too old to kill? I'm only 31, but my profession demands that I keep my name clean.

No your not too old - just careful. If it doesn't feel right- --don't do it. I find myself picking my matches more carefully too. I don't need to rack up a bunch of tickets for stupid stuff. But when I do get one it will be when I was having fun - john

I had a similar experience with a '94ish Maxda RX-7. I know the guy. We drove to the drag strip togather. On the return trip he zips past me in the left lane on the highway. I immediately downshift and get into the throttle. Then I start to think that by the time I catch him we will probably be doing over 150 mph and knowing him there will be some excuse like a bad clutch or something. Listen to me ramble... anyway, sometime it's just not worth it. By the way I'm 22 years old. I think it's responsibility and maybe a little common sence, not age.

Use the Force. Feel the road. Beware the Dark Side of the Force, lurking behind each overpass and billboard. And when you become one with the Viper, go for it!

The car is plenty fast, you don't HAVE to prove anything, but it sure is a blast when you decide to make the jump to lightspeed.

I totally agree with the others on this one. I'm only 29 but I never race at all anymore. that's a much different story than say 5 years ago. had a suped up tt supra with more power than my viper. I raced anyone and everything that had four or two wheels. got many tickets too. I dont race anyone anymore - it's not worth it. It's dangerous and it risks the lives of anybody on the road, including yourself. most of the cars that want to race are no match anyway. they're just pests. plus - the thing that makes you the baddest is knowing you don't have to prove it to anyone else. I look at it this way, most guys that want to go know their cars are slower - they just want to see how much slower. Why should you risk your car and your life just to show someone what they already knew in the first place? In this case you were both on the same level, but I think you did the mature thing. you're not older just wiser.

save the gas it's getting expensive!!!!!!!
