Total Weight of Corsa and 19\" Purners

Since I had some time before installing my new wheels/tires and Corsa exhaust with R/T HiFlow Cats, I decided to weigh everything so I could compare it to the factory items. Here is what I can up with:

3" Corsa Stainless Steel Catback Exhaust: 67 lbs
Factory Catback Exhaust: 48 lbs
Net Gain in Weight: 19 lbs

Random Tech Ceramic HiFlow Cats: 12 lbs
Factory Cats: 21 lbs
Net Loss in Weight: 9 lbs

Total Exhaust Weight Gain: +10 lbs

Rear 19x13 Purners with 345/30s: 64 lbs
Rear 18x13 Factory: 67 lbs
Net Loss in Weight: (3 lbs x 2 = 6 lbs)

Front 19x10 Purners with 285/30s: 56 lbs
Front 18x10 Factory: 58 lbs
Net Loss in Weight: (2 lbs x 2 = 4 lbs)

Total Wheel/Tire Weight Loss: -10 lbs

Overall Total Weight Change: 0 lbs :2tu:

Great info! I thought Corsa would be lighter. Only comment I have is that rotational weight reduction (wheels) probably has more impact on overall performance of the car than reduction of sprung weight.

What kind of factory wheels did you have?

I would expect the Purners at 21 lbs rear and 19 front to be about 10 lbs lighter per wheel than the factory rims.

I think lighter wheels are offset by heavier tires - I presume these are wider than stock.

Re: Total Weight of Corsa and 19\" Purners

Russ,

My car had the factory wheels/tires that came on a 2000 GTS. (Rear: 335/30/18 and Front: 275/35/18) I weighed both sets as a complete wheel/tire with a scale that was good to a 1/2 lb. I talked to the guy from CCW and he said that since the rubber was bigger, the larger tires would offset some of the weight. I was surprised at the small amount of difference myself, so I felt others would like to hear the actual numbers from my experience.

The car has more off the line, which may be due somewhat to the rotational weight issue, but I also changed my gear to a 3.55:1 at the same time. With the large diameter tires, the effective gear ratio is right at 3.33:1.
